K1-K Call Center: A product of creative thinking.

A team of lecturers from the Radio Engineering Department of the Signal Officer School, including Major Pham Ky, Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Hai Binh, and Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Thanh Trung, successfully researched and manufactured an internal telephone exchange system. This product has high applicability in military teaching and training at the school and in equipping combat vehicles.

Initiatives stemming from practical experience.

According to the research team, there is currently a huge demand for internal communication systems to serve the public, develop infrastructure, and construct facilities on the sea and islands, especially on maritime vessels, surface military missile ships, and Kilo-class military submarines in Vietnam. Under harsh working and training environments, these communication systems must operate at high intensity and continuously, leading to frequent malfunctions and communication outages. Furthermore, these complex internal voice communication systems must be imported from abroad, resulting in high costs and a lack of proactive troubleshooting, replacement, and repair.

To address the aforementioned issues, the research team undertook the project "Research, design, and fabrication of the K1-K switchboard for internal communication systems on Russian-made tanks, warships, and submarines using new replacement components for educational and training purposes at the Signal Officer School." The project was led by Major Pham Ky. Sharing about the product, Major Pham Ky stated that the project aimed to achieve self-sufficiency in supplying replacement parts for imported internal communication system switchboards with good quality and low cost. Using knowledge and practical research from imported products, the team analyzed, identified, and utilized replacement components to create the K1-K switchboard, which has equivalent functionality and higher operational efficiency. To date, the K1-K switchboard has achieved a localization rate of 95% and is progressing towards 100%.

Thanks to its benefits, the project recently won first prize at the 11th Khanh Hoa Provincial Science and Technology Innovation Competition; first prize at the Youth Innovation Award of the Signal Corps; and third prize at the 26th All-Army Youth Innovation Award.

Highly applicable

The K1-K telephone exchange, once completed, has high applicability and is being widely adopted to replace imported circuit boards and telephone exchanges from the Russian Federation for communication units throughout the military; it is currently being tested on military warships. A key highlight is that the product has complete control over components, software, and manufacturing technology; its cost is only 1/15 of that of imported equipment while maintaining and even surpassing technical specifications.

In addition to its practical applications in various units, the switchboard system is very convenient for teaching subjects related to electronic technology, electronic components, electronic circuits, and electronic engineering at higher education institutions. In fact, the product has been and is currently being used as a teaching model at the Information Officer School.

Colonel, Dr. Nguyen Danh Khoa - Vice Rector of the Information Officer School: The internal telephone exchange system developed by Major Pham Ky and his colleagues is very useful, enabling the military to become technologically self-reliant and supply replacement parts for imported communication equipment. Furthermore, the product serves as a tool to support the teaching of difficult subjects and specialized information science courses at the school and other educational institutions.

According to Major Pham Ky, the product has affirmed the school's ability to master technology, as well as its ability to replace components manufactured abroad at a lower cost, readily available and easy to order on the market, meeting similar technical specifications to the original circuit board, fully compatible with the currently equipped information equipment system, and even superior in terms of small resistance deviation and high load capacity.
