Reliable sources in Italy and England report that Igor Tudor has agreed to take on the interim head coach role at Tottenham until the end of the season. Final details still need to be finalized with the former Juventus manager, but a verbal agreement has essentially been reached between the two parties.
Igor Tudor was in London negotiating with Tottenham, but he will return to his homeland of Croatia this weekend. He will only officially begin coaching his new players from the beginning of next week and will have a full week to prepare for the crucial match against Arsenal.
Tottenham considered several options before deciding to appoint Igor Tudor. The former Croatian center-back has managed Galatasaray, Juventus, Marseille, Lazio, and has an impressive track record of handling emergencies. He was appointed as manager of Juventus and Lazio in March of each season for the past two years and has successfully stabilized results in the short term.
At Juventus, he took over a team from Thiago Motta that was fifth in Serie A, outside the Champions League qualification zone, after two consecutive defeats capped off a disastrous February in which the club were eliminated from both the Champions League and the Coppa Italia.
Tudor led Juve to fourth place in Serie A and secured Champions League qualification after losing only one of his 11 games in charge. This earned the Croatian coach a two-year contract, although Juventus sacked him just four months later due to declining results.
At Lazio, Tudor took over as head coach from Maurizio Sarri in March 2024 on an 18-month contract. Sarri resigned after Lazio lost five of their last six matches and dropped to ninth place in Serie A. Tudor immediately helped the team perform as expected, winning five of their last nine games (one draw, three losses) and securing a place in the Europa League. However, the Croatian coach decided to leave at the end of the season, just three months after taking office.
Now, Tudor will be tasked with reviving Tottenham – a team that has won only 2 of their last 17 Premier League matches and currently sits 16th with just 5 points above the relegation zone. The Croatian manager will make his debut in the London derby against Arsenal on February 22nd.
