Ho Chi Minh City gets a new book street.

"Recently, the Nguyen Dong Chi Book Street project commenced, and today the Binh Tan Book Street is inaugurated, coinciding with the opening of 'Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day'. This has significant meaning in developing reading culture and building on the success of the Ho Chi Minh City Book Street," said Tran Thi Dieu Thuy, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee.

On the morning of April 25th in Binh Tan District, Ho Chi Minh City, the opening ceremony of the 4th Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day - 2025 and the inauguration of Binh Tan Book Street, organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports and the Binh Tan District People's Committee, took place in the enthusiastic atmosphere of the whole nation celebrating 50 years of national reunification, attracting a large number of writers, researchers, and book lovers.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of Vietnam's Book and Reading Culture Day and the inauguration of Binh Tan Book Street, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Tran Thi Dieu Thuy affirmed: "The publishing industry in particular and the development of reading culture in the city in general have made strong progress, achieving many outstanding results, demonstrating a pioneering and creative role, becoming a highlight in cultural life. Through this, it contributes to spreading reading culture widely, building the culture of the people of Ho Chi Minh City, and at the same time making a positive contribution to the development of the economy , services, and tourism, aiming to build Ho Chi Minh City into a destination for attractive and highly engaging events."

Highlights of activities at Binh Tan Book Street

This year's Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day in Ho Chi Minh City (held from April 19th to May 2nd) will focus on the period from April 25th to 27th at Binh Tan Book Street, Ho Chi Minh City Book Street, Thu Duc City Book Street, Cu Chi District book spaces, and 21 districts and counties, including schools and armed forces areas, with over 300 activities and events (an increase of 60 activities and events) compared to 2024.

The organization of the book fair and other key activities at Binh Tan Book Street is one of the highlights of the 4th City-level Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day. This is one of the outstanding emulation projects of the city's publishing industry to celebrate the 50th anniversary of national reunification.

Numerous exchange programs and book launches took place during this period, including: "Reading the History of Saigon - Ho Chi Minh City in One Breath" ; " From the Ben Hai River to the Independence Palace "; and "100 Years of Tan Son Nhat Airport" . Alongside these were many exhibitions and displays of documents and publications on the theme of the Ho Chi Minh Campaign - a symbol of revolutionary heroism , and the introduction of the historical Ho Chi Minh Campaign postage stamp set on Vietnamese and international postage stamps.

The organizing committee also coordinated with the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training to organize activities celebrating Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day in schools and training institutions, including a competition for excellent librarians in schools and training institutions of the education sector; launching extracurricular activities for students to participate in Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day at Cong Xa Paris Street, Ho Chi Minh City Book Street, Thu Duc City Book Street and other districts and counties to directly experience, interact, and exchange... contributing to cultivating and forming reading habits for students.
