At the Asia-Pacific Dental Conference, organized in Hanoi by the Vietnam Dental Association in collaboration with the Asia-Pacific Dental Federation, the Central Dental Hospital of Hanoi, and the World Dental Federation, Director Ha Anh Duc stated that dentistry is one of Vietnam's strong medical services in attracting international clients, due to factors such as reasonable costs (only about 1/5 of the cost in the US), quick access to dentists, good quality, diverse service packages, and equipment that is on par with international standards.
With these factors, Mr. Duc said that high-quality dental clinics have attracted a large number of international tourists and overseas Vietnamese to use their services, and a separate report from Ho Chi Minh City indicates that it has generated up to 3,500 billion VND from this service.
"The healthcare sector is undertaking many activities to attract medical tourism with two simultaneous goals: attracting foreign customers and reducing the need for Vietnamese people to travel abroad for medical treatment. We also propose granting 5-10 year visas to foreigners coming to Vietnam for permanent residence, living, and retirement after retirement," Mr. Duc said.
According to Mr. Tran Cao Binh, Director of the Central Dental and Maxillofacial Hospital in Hanoi, previously, oral disease prevention focused mainly on school-aged children, primarily primary school students, failing to provide comprehensive oral health care for all groups. The results of prevention were limited, with 90% of patients having oral health problems.
The upcoming nationwide health check-up will include dental check-ups and preventive consultations, with the goal of ensuring every citizen receives a dental check-up, consultation, and preventive treatment once a year, thereby improving overall oral health.
The Asia-Pacific Dental Conference, held over two days on May 13th and 14th, focused on the application of scientific advancements in dental practice. The official scientific program included 80 presentations, scientific studies, and clinical updates from over 60 leading experts in 20 countries and territories.
