Tra Vinh introduces the Festival commemorating 100 years of the wax coconut tree.

According to Mr. Le Thanh Binh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Tra Vinh province, this is a special event, the first of its kind organized on a provincial scale, aimed at honoring and promoting the brand and unique values ​​of waxy coconut.

The event affirms the efforts and determination to bring processed products from wax coconuts to the world market, calling for investment in agricultural processing and tourism with the desire to introduce and promote the potential, advantages, and investment attraction policies, as well as to continue preserving, maintaining, and promoting the Vu Lan Thang Hoi festival, a religious tradition of the Chinese community in Cau Ke district, which has been included in the National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The Tra Vinh 100th Anniversary Festival of Wax Coconuts and the Vu Lan Festival Week in Cau Ke District will take place over 7 days, from August 25th to August 31st, in Cau Ke District, featuring 12 main activities. Highlights include: the opening ceremony of the Tra Vinh 100th Anniversary Festival of Wax Coconuts; a seminar on wax coconuts; an exhibition of delicious specialty fruit products from Tra Vinh province; a competition to prepare 100 delicious dishes from wax coconuts; and a discussion forum on "Cau Ke Tourism - Potential along the Hau River".

Waxy coconut is one of the famous specialties of Tra Vinh province, especially in Cau Ke district. Waxy coconuts first appeared in the 1960s when a Khmer monk in Tra Vinh brought them from Cambodia and planted them in Cau Ke district, where they have been cultivated to this day.
