Learn useful things
This is the second year that Hoang Minh Duc has been sent by his family to the "Phu Dong's Footsteps" summer camp organized by the Central Youth Union's Children's Activities Guidance Center. In 2022, he participated in the "Military Semester" program there. This year, he is participating in the "Learning to be a Police Officer" summer camp organized by the center at the University of Fire Prevention and Fighting (Campus 2, Hoa Son Commune, Luong Son District, Hoa Binh Province).
Ten days of experience led the children to a special learning program with incredibly useful skills. Duc and his friends, aged 8-15, learned how to organize their belongings, fold blankets, and wash clothes to cultivate self-discipline, tidiness, and initiative in daily life; they also learned self-defense techniques to develop courage, confidence, and improve their thinking and reflexes. The "little warriors" also learned about safe social media use, with presentations from speakers to teach them how to use social media in a civilized, polite, and appropriate manner.

The children also participated in two workshops covering important skills such as public speaking and presentation skills; and basic first aid and bandaging for victims of broken bones. In particular, they were equipped with survival skills to prepare them for dangerous situations such as drowning and fires. The instructors taught them crucial skills to help rescue people from drowning. Afterwards, they practiced in the swimming pool, using ropes and lifebuoys to rescue victims.
Most interestingly, the children were instructed on escape skills in case of fire or explosion. During this lesson, the children learned how to extinguish fires and, in particular, practiced rappelling down from a high-rise building to the ground. At first, many children were hesitant and scared, but after the training, they were very enthusiastic to participate.
During their 10-day experience here, the children also participated in humanitarian programs to learn about love. The teachers and supervisors held an evening of lantern lighting to talk about family, the sacrifices of grandparents and parents, and stories of mistreatment by children. Afterwards, the children received letters from their families and wrote letters home. Many children felt guilty upon realizing their wrongdoings towards their families and wept profusely…
The program is very meaningful.
This is the second year that Ms. Ly Thu Hai, mother of Hoang Minh Duc, has taken her son to experience activities at the Central Children's Activities Guidance Center. She shared: "After two experiences at the center, I find it absolutely wonderful. My son had 10 days of meaningful learning and fun. Besides developing self-awareness, he has learned to share with everyone in the family. The most important thing is not just the practical experiences that give my son a beneficial summer, but that these experiences have permeated his physical, mental, and cognitive development for the rest of his life."
Ms. Hai also said that the teachers and supervisors were very enthusiastic, responsible, and caring towards the students. Therefore, after the course ended and he returned home, Duc felt very empty. "Every night he would sob because he missed his friends, his teachers, and the supervisors," Ms. Hai recounted.
As a parent who also enrolled her children in the "Military Summer Camp" program at this center, Ms. Kieu Thu Thuy (35 years old), residing in Cau Giay District, Hanoi , said that her family has two children, Le Doan Khanh Lam (10 years old) and Le Doan Nhat Anh (8 years old). She has enrolled both children in the summer camp since Nhat Anh finished first grade.

Ms. Thuy recounted that after the experience, her children developed greater resilience and better adaptability. Military training means no air conditioning or the same living conditions as at home, but the children remained cheerful, enthusiastic, and eager to go again next year. Despite the hardships, they thoroughly enjoyed the fun and beneficial activities. In particular, the course fostered greater endurance in the children. Furthermore, it allowed them to disconnect from phones and computers, fostering more interaction, love, and mutual support.
Many models help children grow up.
Discussing summer skills training courses, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Kiem, Director of the Central Children's Activities Guidance Center, said that the unit has implemented many models of recreation, entertainment, and skill training to improve the quality and effectiveness of education for children. In addition to summer camps for police and military personnel, the center also develops and organizes talent education classes for children in the area, such as: classes in brass instruments, drums, and Scout rituals; martial arts classes; children's modeling classes; TikTok dance classes… Notably, this year the center has implemented 50 swimming and rescue classes for thousands of children in the area.
"Through these models, children can develop their abilities and talents, creating a favorable environment for them to strive to become useful citizens. At the same time, these programs help children make effective use of their summer vacation; participate in learning, interacting, acquiring knowledge, enhancing their initiative, confidence, independence, and active participation in activities, and staying away from social vices...", Mr. Kiem said.
Mr. Kiem also stated that the center's programs have made a significant contribution to shaping the character and guiding the younger generation of the country towards a healthy lifestyle; encouraging, nurturing, and creating favorable conditions for them to strive and grow.
