Teaching children life values through summer activities

Summer is the time when children temporarily put aside their studies, explore the world and learn new things. Through practical experiences such as talent classes, life skills, workshops, summer camps, etc., children are not only equipped with new knowledge but also practice physical fitness, raise awareness, responsibility, and form good life values.

Create opportunities for children to both learn and play

Fearing that her child would spend too much time watching TV and playing on the phone at home during the summer, Ms. Tran Thi Ngoc Huyen (residing in Tam Vu commune, Tay Ninh province) proactively arranged time for her child to participate in talent classes and extracurricular activities.

Ms. Huyen shared: “I want my child to have a rewarding summer, away from electronic devices, to relax and have fun after a stressful school year, and at the same time, my child can learn more communication skills, be bold in front of a crowd to be more confident and active.”

According to her, letting children participate in many activities not only helps them discover their personal interests but also trains them to focus, be patient and persevere in order to pursue their goals to the end.

Summer classes are not only a playground for practicing skills but also help children form positive life values.

Not only from the parents, gifted education and life skills training facilities also play an important role in accompanying children during the summer. At SKY Talents training facility founded by Mr. Nguyen Xuan Loc, summer classes are not only a playground for practicing skills but also help children form positive life values.

Mr. Loc said: “Letting children participate in skills and art classes during the summer is an opportunity for them to practice their confidence, communication skills, teamwork, develop creative thinking, emotions and concentration. More importantly, they can play and learn in a positive environment instead of just being attached to phones or electronic devices. This is a good foundation for the comprehensive development of children's physical, mental and personality.”

This year, Nguyen Ngoc Khue’s summer (8 years old, living in Tan An ward) has been exciting with many new things. She has just joined a trip to Vung Tau with her school and parents, and experienced her favorite summer classes such as English, drawing and modern dance.

Khue shared that although she had to learn many new subjects, she did not feel tired but was very happy because she made many new friends. Khue not only learned more knowledge but also practiced many life skills such as self-care, communication, problem solving, teamwork and emotional management.

With 13 years of experience in baking, Ms. Doan Thi Kim Ngan (living in Tan Tru commune) spreads her love of cakes to children through baking workshops. Through the tutorials, she realizes that the classroom is not only a place for children to play but also a space to educate life values in a gentle and practical way.

Ms. Ngan shared: “I want to create a place where children can leave their electronic devices, focus on a specific task, create their own products, and from there learn to appreciate their own efforts.”

Ms. Doan Thi Kim Ngan (residing in Tan Tru commune) spreads her love of cakes to children through cake making workshops.

Her baking classes last from 2-3 hours depending on the type of cake, each course consists of 16 sessions, tuition fee is 250,000 VND/session. Cakes such as pizza, moon cakes, chrysanthemum bread,... not only make children excited but also bring interesting experiences.

Ms. Ngan said: "Through each activity, children practice meticulousness, composure, concentration, behavior and learn how to share with their families."

Physical and personality training

Summer is not only a time for children to rest but also a precious opportunity for them to explore the world around them. However, along with that joy is the constant worry of parents about the risk of drowning.

It is this fear that has led many parents to decide to let their children learn to swim early. Stemming from the desire to help children, especially those in difficult circumstances, to be equipped with essential life skills, Tan Hung District Youth Union (dissolved) organized a free swimming class in the summer of 2025.

This is a practical and humane activity, not only contributing to preventing drowning accidents but also educating the physical, mental and self-protection awareness of the future preschool generation.

By participating in the class, children are taught basic swimming skills and equipped with knowledge on how to handle situations when encountering accidents in water, rescue skills, and first aid. This knowledge will help them to be flexible in responding to incidents.

Not just a sports playground, swimming class is also an environment for children to learn independence, practice perseverance, overcome fear of water and explore their own limits.

Le Nguyen Hoang Nam (10 years old, living in Tan Hung commune) - one of the students in the class, shared: "Thanks to this free swimming class, I learned how to swim and know how to handle myself when falling into the water. I am very happy and thank you for organizing this class."

At the free swimming class, children are taught basic swimming skills and knowledge on how to handle situations when encountering accidents in the water.

In addition to summer talent classes, many life skills training playgrounds for teenagers are deployed to train discipline, sense of responsibility and courage. With the theme Awakening courage - Overcoming oneself, the 12th Military Semester program in 2025, jointly organized by the Provincial Youth Union, the Provincial Military Command, and the Department of Education and Training, is expected to take place at the end of August 2025 and last for one week.

The program is designed as a “special school” where young people can experience the military environment, train their physical strength, will and personality through group activities. This is a useful playground, helping them improve their discipline, nurture patriotism, national pride and sense of responsibility to the community, while contributing to spreading the beautiful image and noble qualities of Uncle Ho’s soldiers to the younger generation.

The Military Semester Program is where young people experience the military environment, train their physical strength, will and personality through group activities.

The Military Semester Program also helps students equip themselves with basic knowledge of life skills, social practice and military science knowledge.

Through this, children are formed a positive mindset, know how to look at life in a more humane way, be more self-aware and responsible. The content is subtly integrated to educate morality, family affection, empathy, sharing - core values that help children mature in both personality and action.

To give children a complete and meaningful summer, parents should choose activities that are appropriate to their age, interests and developmental needs so that they can both have fun and learn, accumulating experiences for their future./.
