At the recent 2025 Vietnam Science and Technology Female Student Award ceremony, Ho Thai Anh Thi, Faculty of Chemical Engineering - University of Technology (VNU-HCM), was the only female student honored in the field of applied biology.

Anh Thi's achievements include: GPA 3.6, co-author of 8 international scientific articles, ADM scholarship (Archer-Daniels Midland Company) 2024, HK232 incentive scholarship for the 2023-2024 school year... Photo: NTCC
Thi revealed that the person who first sowed the seeds of her passion was Dr. Ho Dinh Duan (Thi's father). Dr. Ho Dinh Duan won a bronze medal at the International Mathematical Olympiad in 1978.
In the process of scientific research, female students encounter many difficulties. The biggest barrier is gender prejudice. According to Anh Thi, women are often underestimated in terms of capacity and lack development opportunities, especially in the field of science and technology.
"I have tried to prove myself with my own abilities and tried to erase the influence of prejudice. However, that is not enough. I hope parents and teachers will pay more attention to female students so that women can shine" - the female student shared.
Thi confided that her mother is the best support, always teaching her daughter about the core value of learning. Thi's mother always reminds her: "Knowledge is only truly meaningful when it creates value for the community." With that spirit, whenever she encounters obstacles or difficulties, Thi takes her mother's teachings as motivation.

Holding the certificate of merit in hand, the female student sent her thanks to Associate Professor Dr. Hoang Anh Hoang - who guided Thi's graduation thesis. "Thanks to you, I have the opportunity to approach and research bacteriophages - a field that has not yet fully exploited its potential, not only in Vietnam but also in the world " - Anh Thi happily said.
Turn "dry" into "colorful"
The second female student of the University of Technology to be named at the award ceremony was Tran Thi Kieu My. She is not only a rare "beauty" of the mechanical engineering department but also possesses a "super impressive" list of achievements.
The female student has an impressive GPA of 3.6/4, won the title of Excellent Student 2023-2024, third prize at the 12th Faculty of Mechanical Engineering Technical Festival - 2022; third prize at the National Mechanics Olympiad in 2024 and 2025...

Choosing the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering comes from the love for creativity and the desire to contribute to society of a student majoring in natural sciences. Many people think that this is a dry field of study, not suitable for women. At first, My was a bit hesitant and worried, but the more she studied, the more she loved it.
"I turned the "dryness" and "hardship" of the industry into my own "unique color". Women have their own strengths, different from their male counterparts. Mischief and strange thinking can be a good solution to difficult problems" - Kieu My explained with a smile.
In the near future, Kieu My will study abroad in Korea. She hopes to conquer advanced technologies in the field of automation and robotics. The female student hopes to be able to absorb a lot of knowledge, become more mature and confident. After completing her studies, Kieu My will return to Vietnam to participate in teaching and research in the field of mechanical engineering.

Professor Bui Trong Hieu, Head of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering - University of Technology, commented that My not only has outstanding achievements but also is eager to learn, has a progressive spirit and high responsibility.
"In the specialized project with the topic "Design of a paint dipping and drying machine for EPS foam helmet lining", carried out at Long Huei Vietnam Co., Ltd., My demonstrated her ability to connect theoretical knowledge and practical application very well. She proactively proposed feasible technical solutions, meeting production requirements and received many compliments from the company" - Professor - Dr. Hieu added.
In addition, the female student is also the class union secretary, always active in union activities and career guidance programs.
The Vietnam Female Science and Technology Award is organized by the Central Youth Union and the Ministry of Science and Technology. In 2025, 20 female students will win the award from nearly 180 candidates from 45 universities nationwide.
