Ms. Doan Thi Quy, a long-time resident here, wiped away her tears and said sadly: "The embankment is where we make a living, exchange and trade after long trips at sea. Now that it's all gone, we don't know what to do with our lives."

Soldiers and people worked through the night to reinforce landslides.

Faced with the emergency situation, on October 29 and 30, hundreds of officers and soldiers of Division 315, Military Region 5 were present with the people to fight against high water and big waves, and overcome the landslide.

Amidst heavy rain and floodwaters, the journey to maintain the embankment was not easy. Soldiers and people had to shovel soil and rocks from more than 3km away into sacks; mobilize many trucks to transport them to the assembly point, then use carts and small trailers to bring them down to the landslide sites.

Due to the weak embankment, close to residential areas, modern vehicles and machinery are almost inaccessible, the work of "preventing waves and maintaining the shore" depends mostly on human strength. In addition, the downstream current in this area is strong, so sand and rock bags are constantly washed away by waves. In order to maintain the embankment in time, officers and soldiers of the Division worked hard, "day and night" to transport hundreds of cubic meters of sand and gravel to reinforce each landslide site, ensuring safety for the people.

Talking to us while commanding the troops, Captain Tran Dinh An, Deputy Battalion Commander of Battalion 2, Regiment 143, Division 315 shared: "Despite the hardship, the officers and soldiers of the unit are still devoted to their duties. Many soldiers, although exhausted, still strive to help people maintain the embankment."

With the efforts of officers, soldiers and people, most of the landslides were promptly repaired, and the An Luong sea embankment remained stable against the fierce waves.

Looking at the increasingly reinforced sacks and the landslide near her house being gradually fixed, Ms. Le Thi Chin, Head of the Front Committee of An Luong village, happily said: "We thank the soldiers for being there at the right time when people needed them to protect their houses, roads, and property for the people of An Luong."
