The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Dak Lak province has just proposed to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to submit to the Government to include the heritage "Knowledge of growing and processing coffee in Dak Lak" in the list of nominations for UNESCO to be recognized as a representative intangible cultural heritage of humanity.

This proposal is of special significance, not only to honor indigenous knowledge and cultural values associated with coffee trees - the symbol of Dak Lak and the Central Highlands, but also to contribute to raising the brand of Vietnamese coffee in the international arena.

If recognized by UNESCO, this will be a big step forward in preserving and promoting the image of the people and culture of the Central Highlands, while promoting tourism and local socio -economic development on the basis of traditional culture.

Previously, in March 2025, the heritage "Knowledge of growing and processing coffee in Dak Lak" was listed in the List of National Intangible Cultural Heritage by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The registration affirms the value of indigenous knowledge associated with coffee trees - a typical product that creates the brand of this great land, while also honoring the efforts of farmers and processors who have contributed to bringing Vietnamese coffee to the world.

The heritage of “Knowledge of growing and processing coffee in Dak Lak”, also known as Dak Lak coffee growing profession, is a type of folk knowledge and traditional handicraft, preserved and passed down through many generations by the Ede and M'nong communities and immigrant residents.

The heritage space includes growing areas, processing areas and ceremonies associated with coffee trees, demonstrating the strong connection between people, nature, culture and livelihoods.
