Green light of hope
“11:22 PM, October 28, 2025. It’s late… clothes are still soaked, the road is long… flashlights are still shining on every fault, every cable, vehicles are still transporting gasoline to stations running on generators. Floods cannot subdue people’s hearts…”
“This afternoon, October 29, 2025, the rain fell heavily again, floodwaters crawled back up the road, swallowing the streets. Back on the road…”
“Last night, I waded through the water in the middle of the night sky, my hands were cold and shivering, but my heart never stopped burning. I slept for a few hours… and was on the road early this morning. The equipment was submerged deeply, and the damage was too severe… it was not easy to fix. I hope my dear customers in the flooded area sympathize and share”….
These are a few of the countless "diary" lines hastily shared by the "green shirt warriors" of VNPT in recent days, when the Central provinces, from Hue to Da Nang, Quang Ngai are still submerged in flood. Many days ago, when heavy rains began to fall, affecting the electricity - road - school - station systems of the Central provinces. Especially in the days from October 27 to 29, VNPT provinces quickly deployed rescue work, repaired telecommunications infrastructure, ensuring smooth communication for the people.

VNPT staff with equipment and machinery to fix telecommunications problems for people
In Hue , as of the morning of October 30, floodwaters have begun to recede, the water level has dropped by about 0.4m but still slowly. Power grids are still widely lost in many places. At VNPT's mobile charging points in Hue City, Phong Dien, Huong Tra, Quang Dien communes... there are still many people coming. Each phone lights up, greetings are accompanied by sighs of relief, and also sobs.
Previously, since October 28, VNPT Hue has activated the system of free battery charging points and supported stable packages for customers in most of the heavily affected areas in the province. Each power outlet, each generator, each charging cable was given away overnight, not only as a source of energy but also as a source of trust, helping people overcome the flood.

“VNPT Hue understands that when natural disasters strike, what people need most is not only material things but also connection and sharing. Therefore, we are here to help people maintain contact and send messages. Sometimes, just hearing the voice of a loved one is enough to give them the strength to overcome everything,” said Mr. Pham Ngoc Hiep, Deputy Director of VNPT Hue.
As the area is frequently affected by storms, floods and tropical depressions throughout the year, as soon as there was information about the flood forecast, VNPT leaders quickly deployed timely response plans. Along with the direct support for people at charging points, the main task of "VNPT people" is still to ensure the smooth communication system.
Mr. Do Quoc Tuan - Infrastructure staff 2 - VNPT Hue Infrastructure Center shared that until today (October 30), many places in the area in charge such as Phong Dinh, Huong Van, Huong Toan communes are still isolated in the sea of water. VNPT brothers had to rent boats and ferries from the locals to bring in machinery, equipment, and generator fuel to handle the broken stations and transmission towers. There were places where the water was still up to the chest, making it very difficult to move. "There were stations where the water rose quickly, and the brothers could not react in time, only trying to save the equipment and generators. Tired and hard, but everyone had to try because they knew that there were many families waiting to be able to contact their relatives far away," said Mr. Tuan.
Keep the faith, stay strong in the flood center
Leaving home before the flood, eating and sleeping in the flood, with only backpacks, tools, and machines as friends, that is the story that many VNPT people in the Central region like Mr. Tran Anh Tu - a technical staff of VNPT Telecommunications Center in Huong Dien commune have experienced every time the flood comes. For the past 4 days, always in the mindset of "eating quickly, sleeping urgently", wherever people reported losing signal, the water receded, he was there. "Riding a motorbike into the flood, one died, had to borrow another from the locals to continue. Too tired, I stopped, then hit the road again", Mr. Tu shared. When asked about his family, Mr. Tu just smiled "my wife and children are used to it". The house was more than half submerged, property was damaged, relatives were racing against the flood, but what was needed, what people needed, what customers needed, was to get on the road.
As of October 30, according to statistics, in Da Nang, floodwaters in areas such as Dai Loc commune have fallen 1 meter, while other areas are slowly falling. Power grids are still widespread, concentrated in the districts of the old Quang Nam Dai Loc, Que Son, Tien Phuoc, Duy Xuyen, Hoi An. A similar situation is occurring in Hue city. In Quang Ngai alone, water has receded in the plains, while some mountainous areas of the old districts of Son Ha, Son Tay, and Tra Bong are still partially flooded, with traffic cut off.
VNPT said that it is urgently monitoring the flood situation closely, with the spirit of restoring the network as the flood recedes. Currently, the damaged fiber optic cable on the Ho Chi Minh trail (sections such as Da Nang - Phuoc Son, Phuoc Son - Dak To and Hien - A Luoi) has been basically handled. The network operator is also maintaining thousands of generators at mobile broadcasting stations to ensure the best communication network for the people. However, many areas are still deeply flooded and have landslides, so rescue work in some areas is still extremely difficult. "VNPT's spirit is to restore the network as soon as the flood recedes," affirmed the leader of VNPT.
“Not only is VNPT a telecommunications infrastructure provider, it also defines its mission as “a service provider for life, for people”. Because in natural disasters or adversity, connection is not only technology, but also a bridge of humanity, a means for people to rely on, share and overcome storms together”, VNPT representative added.
From the “green dots of hope” in Hue, to the field charging stations in Da Nang, to the signal stations in the mountains of Quang Ngai, all are symbols of the sense of responsibility and heart of VNPT people – people who always put people at the center of every action.
From the “green lights” from the charging stations to the flashlights in the dark, the signal columns, the cables connected to ensure the signal is clear during the rain and floods… that is proof of the spirit of “For people – For the community” that VNPT always pursues.
During the storm and flood, VNPT not only maintained the telecommunications network but also maintained trust and love, so that no one was left behind.
