Artist Dang Tri Duc

On the evening of October 30, in the warm and emotional art space of the program "Vietnam Storytelling", sand painting artist Dang Tri Duc made the audience relive their childhood memories, fairy tales, and simple slices of their homeland through each small grain of sand.

Each stroke, each movement on the table of light, which for him is a magical world of hands and grains of sand, he has transformed into vivid images of a peaceful, proud and humane Vietnam.

Dang Tri Duc – the storyteller of sand

For a long time, the name Dang Tri Duc has been associated with Vietnamese sand painting art on stages at home and abroad.

He is not only a creator, but also a "storyteller of the Vietnamese soul", as each sand painting he creates is imbued with love for his homeland, national pride and a profound humanistic message.

For the Authors' Association of the Ho Chi Minh City Theatre Association, he is a person full of energy, always bringing joy to everyone and diligently composing. He contributes greatly to the "contemporary script" ecosystem providing art units whose language is puppetry, from shadow puppets, stick puppets, black puppets to water puppets.

Artist Dang Tru Duc and MC Mai Anh interact with the audience

In the program "Vietnam Storytelling", artist Dang Tri Duc leads the audience through four short stories, like four chapters in an epic poem: "Hello Vietnam!" - opening a journey to discover the country through Pham Duy's music and shimmering lights; "Origin" - recreating the legend "Con Rong Chau Tien", reminding the sacred origin of the Vietnamese people.

"Mother's Diary" brings gentle emotions about maternal love, connecting people to their homeland with an invisible thread of love. "And the flowers will bloom" closes the program with the belief, hope and enduring vitality of the Vietnamese people after storms.

Dang Tri Duc - Sand paintings are wordless but have endless language

If painting is the crystallization of lines and colors, then sand painting performance is the sublimation of moments. Each work only lasts for a few minutes, but touches the viewer's emotions deeply with its fragility, delicacy and authenticity.

With skillful hands and delicate emotions, Dang Tri Duc has turned lifeless grains of sand into symbols of memories and aspirations. "He paints with his own soul, turns grains of sand into words and touches the memories of viewers" - said screenwriter Nguyen Thu Phuong.

Watching this performance, the audience burst into tears because the music and light blended with each movement created a symphony of images and sounds, both poetic and full of national pride.

"This is a program I have cherished for many years and wish to promote the beautiful image of the beloved country and people of Vietnam" - artist Dang Tri Duc shared.

Dang Tri Duc - From Vietnam to international friends

The special and proud point is that after this special art night, artist Dang Tri Duc will bring "Vietnam Storytelling - Vietnam Tells Stories" to perform at the Nabeul Festival for Kids 2025 International Children's Arts Festival in Tunisia (from December 21 to 28).

This is a personal honor for him and a testament to the integration journey of Vietnamese art when traditional values are retold in the language of modern art, which can touch the hearts of international audiences.

Artist Dang Tri Duc is always working hard to turn grains of sand into beautiful paintings of the land and people of Vietnam.

"Vietnam Storytelling" is a performance with gratitude for the homeland, for the origin and for the audience who love sand paintings that Dang Tri Duc has successfully performed, carving in the minds of the audience his very own mark.

Through the language of sand, the program arouses national pride, fosters awareness of preserving and promoting Vietnamese culture in the young generation.

Each grain of sand on the table of light is a grain of memory, a drop of love, and when combined into a shape, it is a picture of Vietnam, a small but benevolent country, always reaching out to the world with efforts to make the earth a better place.

"While I still have health and energy, I will continue to work creatively, using small grains of sand to sow the dream of living well, living beautifully and joining hands to protect the green buds of life" - artist Dang Tri Duc shared.
