200 people clean up Hue Monuments after flooding

TPO - The historic flood caused many relic sites in the Hue Heritage Site to be deeply submerged, with mud covering the courtyards of many palaces and walkways. As soon as the water receded, the Hue Monuments Conservation Center mobilized all its forces to carry out a general cleaning, in order to reopen to welcome visitors on the morning of October 31.

During the historic flood days in Hue , many relic sites in the Hue Heritage Site were deeply flooded. After the first cleanup on October 29, the floodwaters rose again, forcing the cleaning work of the Hue Heritage Site to be "started from scratch".

Immediately after the water receded, nearly 200 officers and employees of the Hue Monuments Conservation Center were mobilized to important relic sites such as the Imperial City, Tu Duc, Minh Mang, Khai Dinh tombs, An Dinh palace... to drain stagnant water, scoop mud, wash brick yards and clean the interior.

The cleaning teams follow the principle of "cleaning as the water recedes", prioritizing areas with many visitors and vulnerable structures.

Mr. Le Cong Son - Deputy Director of the Hue Monuments Conservation Center - said: "Immediately after the flood receded, the entire on-duty force was mobilized to carry out a general cleaning. The goal is to clear the mud, restore the landscape and bring the relic sites back into operation as soon as possible."

Along the paths in the Imperial City, the sounds of pumps, sprayers, and brooms echoed. Each patch of mud was swept away, each ancient brick was washed clean. In many areas, staff had to manually drain the water because the drainage system had not been cleared after many days of flooding.

In parallel with the cleaning work, specialized teams conduct inspection, assessment and maintenance of submerged relic items, especially wooden structures and carved details.
