In Dai Loc commune, the flood has caused many areas of the commune to be deeply flooded, completely isolating them. According to preliminary statistics, the whole commune has 33 villages, of which 28 villages were completely flooded, traffic was paralyzed.

Since October 30, the water has gradually receded, and residents in some high-altitude areas have begun clearing mud and dirt. Rearranging the few remaining cabinets and shelves, Ms. Cao Thi Thinh sighed, “It will take a few more days to clear it all.”

The mud is still thick.

After reading the forecast, Ms. Thinh’s family proactively raised their furniture and used nets to cover the flower pots, ornamental plants, and ceramics they sold outside. But the floodwaters rose high and flowed rapidly, sweeping away many of the family’s goods.

As the water receded, she quickly cleaned up. By this morning, the house had been cleared of mud, but the household items were still in disarray.

Mr. Pham Hiep (village 6) was cleaning up his old house used as a place of worship that collapsed a few days ago. Everything was covered in mud, from the house to the garden.

After cleaning the house, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Tinh, a vendor at Ai Nghia Crossroads Market, and her husband went to their stall to wash off the thick mud on the shelves. Anticipating a flood, the shoes they sold were wrapped in plastic bags and placed 1.5 meters high. But the floodwaters rose too high, and all the items were covered with water and mud.

"Anything that can still be used is sold cheaply, and anything that is too damaged is given to people to use. The flood is too high so we have no choice but to give up," said Ms. Tinh.
