Pa Co invests in community tourism

Pa Co has beautiful landscapes, cool climate all year round, is home to the majority of H'Mong ethnic people with a unique cultural life, has great potential to develop community tourism , attracting tourists to explore and experience.

Coming to Pa Co, tourists can explore the tourist villages and hamlets with small roads, tea hills, plum gardens and ancient primeval forests on both sides. Not only that, Pa Co is also famous for its cloud hunting spots: Thung Mai, Pa Khom and Hang Kia. This place often attracts tourists to hunt clouds all year round, regardless of season, especially international groups.

In the natural setting of the poetic mountains and forests with simple, rustic stilt houses, there are people diligently weaving brocade, dyeing indigo, painting beeswax on linen... All create a simple and attractive picture of the H'Mong village. Besides, Pa Co also impresses tourists with the culinary culture of the H'Mong ethnic group, such as: local pigs, black chickens, corn wine, hand-pounded sticky rice cakes, cat cabbage, bean vegetables, chayote... These are dishes that are always associated with and carry the strong identity of the ethnic people here.

The reason why Pa Co has become a tourist destination of Phu Tho province is because, in addition to the natural landscape, this place preserves unique indigenous culture through language, costumes, customs and daily activities. Households doing community tourism actively improve service quality, build and renew experiential products, such as: H'Mong ethnic cultural night market in Pa Co, experience weaving, dyeing brocade, picking tea... Notably, local people focus on investing in building homestays, proactively developing trees and animals, preserving traditional crafts and putting tourism products into business.

In the commune, there are currently some famous homestays such as: Y Mua Homestay; A La Homestay; Y Sao Homestay... The infrastructure conditions and quality of accommodation services at community guesthouses meet the needs of tourists. Households doing community tourism are actively linking tours, routes and building and perfecting local tourism products to enrich the experience, attracting more and more tourists. Each year, the commune welcomes about more than 5,000 tourists, of which more than 60% are foreign visitors.

Since 2019, the People's Committee of Hoa Binh province (old) has organized a conference to promote tourism investment in Pa Co and Hang Kia communes to promote the tourism potential here. The goal set by the Party Congress of Pa Co commune: Developing community tourism associated with national cultural identity to create sustainable livelihoods and increase income, striving in the period of 2025-2030, increasing the State budget revenue by an average of 10%/year, continuing to implement the goals of poverty reduction and improving people's lives.

Over the past years, with the attention of the Party and the State, the close leadership and direction of the local Party Committee and government, the material and spiritual life of the people of Pa Co commune has been significantly improved. Infrastructure has been gradually invested in and built spaciously; basic public works have met the needs of life, the appearance of the hamlet and commune has changed significantly.

People are actively changing the structure of crops and livestock, focusing on local strengths such as: temperate vegetables, fruits, black chickens, local pigs... which are both cultivated products and serve tourism development. However, up to now, Pa Co's tourism potential has not been fully exploited, the number of tourists is not large, there are no large projects, not commensurate with the local potential... Comrade Tran Van Truyen, Chairman of Pa Co Commune People's Committee said: Although there is a lot of potential for tourism development, up to now Pa Co is still facing many difficulties such as: difficult traffic infrastructure, infrastructure of electricity system, roads, schools, stations at many points are deteriorating, need investment.

In addition, the area is mainly hills and mountains, with little land for production, and irrigation water is not yet available, making it difficult to develop agriculture. Therefore, the commune has determined to take tourism development as the spearhead and main focus; focusing on developing community tourism types in the direction of mobilizing people to participate, supporting people to build homestays combined with developing clean agricultural production to serve tourism (growing clean vegetables, growing fruit trees, etc.); investing in tourism infrastructure; continuing to request the province to pay attention to opening training courses to improve skills and knowledge of serving tourists for the people... Proactively, internally, gradually overcoming difficulties, building the commune into an ideal tourist destination on the Northwest route.

Pa Co commune was merged from the communes: Pa Co, Hang Kia, Cun Pheo and three hamlets of Dong Tan commune; total natural area 115.764 km²; population size 11,190 people, including the ethnic groups H'Mong, Thai, Muong, Dao, Kinh... living together. Of which, the H'Mong ethnic group accounts for the majority (about 59%). Immediately after the two-level local government came into operation, the commune issued resolutions and decisions on organizational work, personnel work, ensuring that the commune government apparatus operated without interruption. The commune oriented tourism development as a spearhead to create a breakthrough in socio-economic development in the localities. Striving to make Pa Co an attractive destination to attract a large number of domestic and international tourists.
