Enhance the value of durian

With the advantage of climate and soil conditions suitable for durian trees, the communes of Khanh Son, Dong Khanh Son and Tay Khanh Son have become the "capitals" of this unique, high-value agricultural product. Up to now, durians of the localities have been registered for trademark protection and voted as the golden agricultural brand of Vietnam. The localities have also promoted the development of OCOP products from durian. Thanks to that, the durian brand has increasingly spread.

Developing OCOP products from durian

Recently, Thanh Hung Agricultural Company Limited (Dong Khanh Son commune) received good news when Thanh Hung dried durian products were recognized as a typical national rural industrial product for the 6th time in 2025. Not only growing and trading fresh durian products, Thanh Hung Agricultural Company Limited also develops product lines that increase the value of fresh durian. From the organic durian growing area, meeting VietGAP standards, each durian that reaches maturity is harvested, through the processing process at the standard factory, creating quality product lines, meeting the needs of the market. In particular, Thanh Hung dried durian products, in addition to being recognized as a typical national rural industrial product, are also 4-star OCOP products. The enterprise also has other OCOP products under the Thanh Hung brand such as: Frozen durian, durian ice cream are 4-star OCOP products; Durian yogurt ice cream, dried rambutan, dried mangosteen, dried pineapple are 3-star OCOP products.

According to Mr. Tran Tan Chong - Head of the Economic Department of Dong Khanh Son Commune, the development of diverse products based on fresh durian for domestic consumption and export as directed by Thanh Hung Agricultural Company Limited will contribute to enhancing the brand value of Dong Khanh Son commune's durian, increasing income for durian growers. The locality encourages businesses to develop agriculture in the direction of integrating multi-value, diversifying OCOP products, linking in the chain from production to processing, consumption... In addition to the products of Thanh Hung Agricultural Company Limited, the locality also has Suoi Me durian products of the Suoi Me durian cooperative, which is a 3-star OCOP product and some other 3-star OCOP products from typical local agricultural products.

Durian is also the main crop of Khanh Son commune with 1,279 hectares, of which 780 hectares are bearing fruit, mainly Ri6 varieties accounting for about 20% of the area, Monthong accounting for 65%, the rest are Chin Hoa and Musang King varieties. In the 2025 durian crop, farmers harvested about 9,000 tons of fresh durian. Thanks to durian cultivation, in recent years, many households in the commune have risen to have a prosperous life, many ethnic minority households have escaped poverty. The locality has identified the OCOP program as an important driving force for rural economic development, increasing the added value of agricultural and rural products. Implementing the OCOP program, up to now, Khanh Son commune has had 1 4-star OCOP product, Phuong Dai frozen durian of Khanh Son Ecological Investment Joint Stock Company and 1 3-star OCOP product, Manh Hung durian of Manh Hung Durian Cooperative.

More investment resources

Through the implementation of the OCOP program, support policies have been promptly supported by the communes of Khanh Son, Dong Khanh Son and Tay Khanh Son, helping the subjects participating in the program have more resources to invest in OCOP products, especially durian products. Thanks to that, the OCOP products of the subjects have made progress in quality, increasingly eye-catching designs, ensuring the conditions of food safety and hygiene, stamps, labels, product traceability, meeting market requirements... The effectiveness of the OCOP program for the local economy is very large, contributing to improving the income and life of people in rural mountainous areas and changing the way of organizing production in the localities.

Durian has brought high income to people in Tay Khanh Son commune.

Mr. Nguyen Tri Dung - Vice Chairman of Tay Khanh Son Commune People's Committee, said that currently, the commune has 1,058 hectares of durian, of which about 70% of the area is in the business period; durian productivity in 2025 will reach about 12 tons/ha. Implementing the OCOP program, in the past time, the commune has focused on developing OCOP products from durian to increase the value of this agricultural product. Up to now, in the commune, there are 4 OCOP products, of which 2 are 3-star OCOP products from durian, including: Bay Ho durian of the Bay Ho Khanh Son Durian Cooperative and fresh durian of Thanh Son Green Farm Cooperative. In the coming time, the locality will focus on developing OCOP products from durian to spread and increase the brand value of Tay Khanh Son durian and contribute to increasing the income of durian growers.
