Farmers are proactive to avoid damage
On November 4, together with the forces of Cam Ranh - Truong Sa Fisheries Control Station (Department of Fisheries and Islands) going to the aquaculture areas in Cam Ranh Bay to propagate and mobilize people to respond to storm Kalmaegi, we recorded the urgent atmosphere of responding to storm Kalmaegi throughout the farming areas. Boats went back and forth to the farming areas to collect lobsters and sea fish. In the farming areas, people focused on anchoring more ropes, reinforcing cages... In Cam Lap farming area (Nam Cam Ranh commune), Mr. Do Thanh Buu's family mobilized 10 workers to harvest green lobsters in 50 cages. Mr. Buu said: “My family raises 500 shrimp cages in Cam Lap sea area with all sizes, of which 50 are about 4-5 shrimp/kg in size, although not yet grade 1 (3 shrimp/kg), the family still decided to sell them to avoid the storm. Also according to Mr. Buu, to proactively respond to the upcoming storm, in addition to reinforcing anchors around rafts and cages, weak cages that are not safe will be moved to other cages, and the cage mouths will be sewn tightly to avoid loss. Hearing that the storm could directly affect Khanh Hoa , his family did not take it lightly but tried to reinforce it as much as possible. By noon on November 6, after feeding the shrimp, all workers on the rafts will go ashore to avoid the storm. Similar to Mr. Buu's family, other shrimp farmers throughout Cam Ranh Bay are also busy harvesting commercial shrimp to avoid damage when the storm hits.
Strengthening coordination of forces
On November 4, the People's Committee of Dai Lanh commune coordinated with the border guards and fisheries control forces to propagate and mobilize aquaculture households to proactively respond to storm Kalmaegi. Through screening, the whole commune has 923 aquaculture households, with 35,291 cages for raising lobsters and various types of marine fish. The locality has organized propaganda both at sea and on land, warning people about the dangers and damages that storm Kalmaegi can cause so that they can proactively respond. Learning from the damage caused by some storms in previous years, when hearing information that storm Kalmaegi could directly affect the area from Da Nang to Khanh Hoa, aquaculture people in Dai Lanh commune proactively responded such as: Harvesting shrimp and fish that have reached the right size, reinforcing cages, moving cages to sheltered places...
Mr. Le Dinh Khiem - Head of the Department of Fisheries and Islands said: "After checking, by noon on November 4, there were 3,782 aquaculture households in the province, with 144,267 cages, mainly lobsters, marine fish and 18 oyster rafts. Of which, Cam Ranh Bay area has the most with 2,022 households, 88,853 cages; Van Phong Bay area has 1,284 households, with 42,498 cages; Nha Trang Bay area has 222 households, with 5,835 cages; Nha Phu lagoon area and the coastal area of Dong Ninh Hoa ward have 162 households, with 810 cages and 18 oyster rafts; in Vinh Hai and Ca Na communes there are 92 households, with 6,271 cages. On the other hand, the number of workers working on the cages is also very large. Facing the unpredictable developments of the storm Kalmaegi, the unit has closely coordinated with the People's Committees of coastal localities and relevant agencies to update the aquaculture situation at sea; propagate and disseminate information to people about the storm's developments to proactively prevent it. The Department has also directed its subordinate fisheries control stations to coordinate with functional forces and local authorities to mobilize people to move their rafts to safe places, proactively reinforce the rafts; remind people not to stay on the rafts or watchtowers when the storm hits.
