At the end of 2024, due to prolonged heavy rain, a serious landslide occurred on National Highway 27C through Khanh Le Pass. At that time, there were up to 10 landslides with more than 100,000m3 of mud and soil flowing onto the road surface, damaging many traffic works, guardrails, rescue roads, etc. Because this is a vital route connecting Nha Trang - Da Lat, relevant units mobilized hundreds of workers and machines to work day and night to open the road soon. However, the serious landslide left many consequences for traffic infrastructure in the Khanh Le Pass area. Therefore, in 2025, Road Management Area III (Vietnam Road Administration) directed the maintenance contractor to survey, evaluate and repair many landslides, and upgrade some items of the road.

Khanh Le Pass has been promptly repaired and landslides have been overcome, ensuring safe traffic during the rainy season.
Khanh Le Pass has been promptly repaired and landslides have been overcome, ensuring safe traffic during the rainy season.

Mr. Le Thuan Doan - Director of Khanh Hoa Road Management and Construction Joint Stock Company said that to ensure traffic safety on Khanh Le Pass, the company was assigned by Road Management Zone III to construct the Emergency Repair Project to improve traffic safety on National Highway 27C (Khanh Le Pass section). The company mobilized machinery and human resources to clear rocks and soil, install guardrails, rebuild the slope system, drainage ditches and check locations at risk of further landslides. The construction unit repaired and replaced 115 guardrail sections with a total length of nearly 6.2km; replaced many 2-storey guardrail sections with a total length of 3.8km, nearly 50m of tire wall guardrails at Gop Dai Bridge. The contractor also built a new evacuation route at Km40+300; renovated and expanded the curve and repaired and replaced nearly 200m of damaged drainage ditch at Km56+500; Reinforce and renew the curb from the edge of the road to the foot of the guardrail with a total area of over 8,900m2 ... The construction sites are scattered over a length of about 30km. In particular, the company also completed the construction of a new vehicle technical inspection station at Km49+500. The total cost of implementation is about 26 billion VND.

Due to the continuous rainy weather since the beginning of the year, the maintenance contractor had to work overtime on sunny days. During the construction process, when encountering underground rocks, the contractor had to increase the number of human resources, construction equipment, and apply technical solutions such as drilling, breaking rocks... to handle them. In addition, the project was also stuck with site clearance at some locations passing through people's fields, especially the site at the rescue road, and had to wait for the Provincial People's Council to approve it for implementation. To make up for the project's progress, the contractor increased the number of machines and human resources to speed up the implementation.

According to Mr. Le Thuan Doan, Khanh Le Pass has steep mountainous terrain, weak soil, and prolonged heavy rains that can easily cause landslides. There are more than 20 potential landslide risk points along the route, of which 6 are classified as highly dangerous. Road Management Area III has reviewed and comprehensively assessed locations at high risk of landslides, developed long-term prevention plans, and combined technical solutions. The goal is to ensure sustainable and smooth traffic safety, best serving the travel needs and socio -economic development of the people. During implementation, the company has prioritized reinforcing weak points, repairing and replacing guardrail systems, and new drainage systems to ensure safety for people and vehicles during this year's rainy and stormy season.

National Highway 27C connecting Nha Trang - Da Lat was started in 2004, in which Khanh Le Pass was the route constructed under difficult and arduous conditions. By 2007, the road was completed with a total length of about 130km, shortening nearly 90km compared to the old road passing through Ngoan Muc Pass (Lam Son Commune). Khanh Le Pass is more than 30km long, with many winding curves; the peak of the pass is up to 1,700m above sea level. Since its opening, Khanh Le Pass has often suffered landslides causing traffic jams and potential danger.
