Ha Tinh girl conquers 'technical territory', wins 2 prestigious international scholarships

In July 2025, Thuy Duong won a full scholarship to Erasmus+, one of the prestigious scholarship programs of the European Union (EU) for a two-year master's degree in France. The female student majored in Computer Science at the Center for Digital Systems for Humans - a unit under the University of Côte d'Azur (France).

The Erasmus+ scholarship that Thuy Duong received is a full exchange scholarship, including 100% tuition exemption, registration fee and CEVEC fee (a fee contributing to the development of the learning environment and student life - a compulsory fee for all students in France). In addition, the female student is also supported with travel and living expenses with a total value of up to 10,000 euros/year (equivalent to more than 306 million VND).

Persevere in a field of study that is "selective" of women

Since middle school, Thuy Duong has shown her love for computer science and programming. In grade 9, she represented the school in the Young Computer Science competition and participated in the provincial level competition as a student at Can Loc High School. Her love for computers and programming guided her to choose Electrical Engineering - majoring in Industrial Computer Science at the University of Technology - University of Danang .

Information technology is a rapidly growing field globally, with wide-open learning and employment opportunities, which is why Thuy Duong is determined to pursue this industry.

Facing the notion that “engineering is a male domain”, Duong believes that ability is not limited by gender. Choosing a different path from the majority of girls is a way to challenge herself. " In the engineering industry, women's meticulousness and insight are their own advantages ," Duong said.

Two months, conquer two full scholarships

Since her years studying at Can Loc High School - a school famous for its tradition of studiousness, Thuy Duong has cherished the dream of studying abroad. For the female student, studying abroad is not only an opportunity to gain knowledge but also a journey to discover and experience a multicultural life.

When he became a student at the University of Science and Technology - Danang University, that dream gradually came true. During his studies, Duong actively participated in extracurricular activities, proactively learned about scholarship programs and study abroad opportunities. Seeing his seniors and friends around him gradually realize their dream of studying abroad, Duong became more determined and worked hard.

In early 2025, Thuy Duong was selected to intern and do her graduation project at National Chung Cheng University (China) for 4 months. Her project scored 9.6 points - the highest in the 2020 enrollment period. Immediately after the internship, she received a letter of admission to the master's program at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, National Chung Cheng University, with a full scholarship.

At the same time, Thuy Duong continued to apply for the Erasmus+ scholarship at the University of Côte d'Azur (France) - Europe's leading research center on digital systems serving people.

Coming from a background of in-depth study in programming and technology, Duong decided to choose a new direction, a master's degree in Computer Science in France. Just a few weeks after defending his graduation project, Duong quickly completed his application including transcripts, CV, foreign language certificates, motivation letter, recommendation letter, and achievements and awards. After the interview round, at the end of July, Duong received news that he had been accepted for the prestigious Erasmus+ scholarship.

Trade off time for learning and contribution

Not only achieving outstanding academic achievements, Thuy Duong is also an active face in extracurricular activities. In 2022, she was elected to the University Council of Danang University of Technology - University of Danang, representing the voice of more than 17,000 students in the school's decisions.

At the same time, Duong took on the role of Standing Committee Member, Head of the Organization and Inspection Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of the school (term 2022 - 2024) and actively participated in many other student programs and projects.

According to Duong, participating in extracurricular activities helps her practice soft skills, improve her confidence and expand her network of relationships - important factors when applying for scholarships. However, that also means sacrificing a lot of personal time.

"My working style is to not let any time 'die'. There are days when I spend 13 hours on two areas: studying and taking on extracurricular activities. I always try to fulfill my responsibilities in both areas, even if it means sacrificing my rest time," Duong said.

Thuy Duong is focusing on completing her master's program and planning to apply for a doctoral scholarship to continue her education. Regarding her long-term dream, she hopes to become a lecturer at the University of Technology - Danang University, the place that nurtures and initiates the female student's dream and journey of knowledge.
