Sharing about the school's enrollment this year, Mr. Christopher Wayne Abrams, Vice President of the school, said that Fulbright University Vietnam offers a 4-year bachelor's program with an interdisciplinary educational foundation, encouraging critical and creative thinking. The training program helps "prepare students for a meaningful and successful life" by allowing them to study both broadly and deeply in the fields of their choice. The school's major fields of study include science and technology, social sciences and arts & humanities. In all programs, students learn in small and highly personalized classes, combined with practical experience.

So what does interdisciplinary education at Fulbright University Vietnam mean in the current social context?
Present at the online session, Professor Erik Harms - Chairman of the Southeast Asian Studies Council, Yale University, shared an old story. When he was a university student, he studied with Professor Laura Nader, a very famous anthropologist. When he told her that he loved anthropology and wanted to choose this field as a major, she said that anthropology is a great foundation to explore everything related, be it language, geography, political science, economics, architecture, anything related to human life. Connect it all. Don't be afraid of statistics. Don't be afraid of economics. Don't be afraid of natural science, physics, or any field, to become a well-rounded person. That is the mindset of interdisciplinary education.
"Just like artificial intelligence (AI) is changing so many things, and that's how the world has always worked. In a sense, I think it's in this context that interdisciplinary education becomes the most interesting place to be. When you're faced with a revolutionary technology that changes the world, you think: 'I was trained at university not just to be a technical expert in a narrow field, but also to be a thinker.' And it's that kind of person who can adapt to profound changes. Of course, that doesn't mean it's easy. It's very difficult. And because it's difficult, you need an open, multidimensional education," said Professor Erik Harms.
Discussing the school's admission process, Mr. Huynh Quang Hieu - Head of Scholarship Department, Fulbright University Vietnam, also said that the school's orientation is always comprehensive admission. The school will select candidates not only through individual factors but also based on many different overall factors (interests, talents, identity, etc.) to see if they are suitable for the school or not. The school's point of view in admission is that evaluating a candidate is not based on scores but on the combination of many comprehensive factors.
"Interdisciplinary education itself has many good points, but it is not suitable for everyone. So the school really wants you to learn carefully. Be yourself when applying. It is a journey where you can look back at yourself, reflect, and reflect on yourself to share what you have," Mr. Hieu shared.

Prepare for the unknowns of the future
During the online session, Dr. Vu Minh Hoang - Lecturer of History and Vietnamese Studies, Fulbright University Vietnam, said that at the school, students will not choose a major from the beginning but will choose a major in the 3rd or 4th year. The curriculum at the school is very flexible. Why is that?
According to Dr. Hoang, the future has many unknowns. During the learning process, students can experience many subjects from a variety of majors and departments, especially in year 1 and year 2. Among them, there are core subjects that students still need to study no matter which major they choose, such as global humanities, history, culture, literature of countries around the world, modern Vietnamese social culture, design thinking, etc. Almost every student chooses more than one major to study in year 3 and 4. For Mr. Hoang, passion will be the premise for students to become excellent, and excellence can lead to success in any major. This preparation of the school also helps students easily adapt to the ever-changing world in the future.

Sharing about this issue, Ms. Thai Nguyet Minh - Director of Capital and Foreign Exchange Business Department of Maybank Vietnam also said that in the financial industry, the market changes every minute, which means the needs of customers and financial institutions also fluctuate continuously. Therefore, four qualities and skills that are especially focused on are: adaptability, critical thinking, communication skills, and initiative. Students trained in an interdisciplinary educational environment often practice and accumulate these abilities, thereby bringing different values to businesses and quickly catching up with changes. This is also a popular recruitment trend today, not only in the financial sector but also in many other industries.

Also present at the online session, Le Kieu Oanh - Head of Strategy Department at Copper Mountain Energy, a former student of Fulbright University Vietnam, shared that after graduating, Oanh successfully applied for the position of Strategy Team Leader at CME. After only 1 year, Oanh continued to be entrusted with the task of building the Strategy Department and is currently holding the role of Head of Strategy Department. This success comes a lot from the value that interdisciplinary education at Fulbright had previously equipped. In addition to the knowledge learned, there is also multi-dimensional thinking, concise and effective communication skills, learning spirit, modesty... along with practical experiences through internships at many startup and consulting companies while still in school.
"One of the first lessons Fulbright taught me was kindness. I always remember a question from Mr. Kinho: Do you think schools should teach about making money first or about the purpose of living happily first? As children at that time, we sat and discussed enthusiastically, often not fully understanding what the teachers meant. But those questions followed me and urged me to think before making any decisions in my career. The kindness I learned at school has followed me throughout my working years and will probably follow me throughout my career," Kieu Oanh shared.
