Kong Collapse is located in the core zone of the World Natural Heritage Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park (Quang Tri). This place not only possesses the majestic and overwhelming beauty of geological formations but also contains mysterious stories full of adventure. (Photo: Le Luu Dung).
Kong Collapse is located near the end of the Tiger Cave system, which consists of three large, interconnected caves: Pygmy Cave, Tiger Cave, and Over Cave. According to experts, this sinkhole is the result of a long-term geological erosion process that caused the cave ceiling to collapse, forming a large hole. The hole was first discovered by the British Royal Cave Association in 1997 when explorers swam through the Tiger Cave entrance. At that time, the hole was called a "dead end hole" because no exit was found.
In 2019, during a survey trip, experts from the adventure travel company Jungle Boss accidentally discovered a strange sinkhole in the middle of the forest while flying a drone. From a high angle, the hole resembled the head of the giant gorilla character Kong in the famous Hollywood movie, and the name "Kong sinkhole" was born from that.
With a measured depth from the center of the bottom to the mouth of the hole of about 450 meters, Kong Collapse is recognized by the British Royal Cave Association as the deepest sinkhole in Vietnam and is among the deepest sinkholes on the planet.
Because Kong Collapse is located deep in the primeval forest, to reach it you have to walk dozens of kilometers of bumpy trails, full of insects, sharp thorns, poisonous leaves, leeches...
What is special is that at the bottom of Kong Collapse is an isolated ecosystem, with lush green forests and many species of flora and fauna typical of Phong Nha.
Along with that, on the cliffs there are traces of fish and coral fossils. All create a space that is both rich in scientific value and associated with indigenous culture.
To date, exploring Kong Collapse is one of the most difficult cave adventure tours in Vietnam. After being assessed and licensed by the authorities, from the end of 2021, the Kong Collapse zipline tour officially operated. This is where the experience of ziplining 100 meters from the right "eye socket" to the bottom of the sinkhole, equivalent to the height of a building over 30 floors.

In addition to the experience at Kong Collapse, adventure travelers can explore the mysteries in a chain of three adjacent cave systems that are more than 7km long, including Tiger Cave, Pygmy Cave and Over Cave.
Explorers will be amazed by the mysterious and majestic scenery of the cave system perfectly created by nature.
Explorers can also experience camping overnight by the underground river, watching the sparkling starry sky through the Kong Collapse crater. Or “blind swimming” about 500m in the cold, pitch-black water in the cave...
