On December 13th, Thai Nguyen Central Hospital and the Vietnam Society of Arthroscopy and Joint Replacement jointly organized an international scientific conference on the theme " Restoring Natural Joint Function in Joint Reconstruction Surgery " to enhance the exchange of experience and share information on diagnosis and treatment in the field of arthroscopy and joint replacement.

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Cong Hoang, Director of Thai Nguyen Central Hospital, delivered a speech.

The conference brought together hundreds of doctors and experts from major hospitals and universities across the country, such as: Military Central Hospital 108, Viet Duc Friendship Hospital, Cho Ray Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City Orthopedic and Trauma Hospital, Hue Central Hospital, Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Thai Nguyen University of Medicine and Pharmacy... and also featured many international experts.

This is an in-depth scientific forum focusing on exchanging and updating the latest advances in the field of arthroscopic surgery and joint replacement; it is also a rare opportunity for doctors and experts from Vietnam and abroad to network, share experiences, and learn advanced techniques from leading colleagues.

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Cong Hoang, Director of Thai Nguyen Central Hospital, stated at the conference that 20 years ago, Vietnamese patients who wanted joint replacement surgery had to spend a lot of money to go to Germany or other countries. However, in recent years, the field of arthroscopic surgery and joint replacement in our country has truly developed.

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Cong Hoang presented a photograph of Thai Nguyen Central Hospital to Dr. Tang Ha Nam Anh.

"About four years ago, Thai Nguyen Central Hospital successfully performed shoulder replacement surgery on a 92-year-old man. Just two days later, he was able to move well and recovered quickly."

"From a small hospital, the team of doctors at Thai Nguyen Central Hospital has continuously improved their skills and transferred technology, becoming one of the leading hospitals in the country, including the field of joint replacement," said Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Cong Hoang.

Sharing the same view, Dr. Tang Ha Nam Anh - President of the Vietnam Association of Arthroscopy and Joint Replacement - affirmed that although the field of joint replacement in Vietnam is still young compared to the medical sectors of countries in the region such as Thailand and Singapore, or compared to the world, it has recently developed remarkably. This stems from many reasons, but the most important reason is the enormous benefits that arthroscopy and joint replacement techniques bring to the people.

"We are witnessing strong development in the fields of endoscopy and osteoarthroplasty, especially the application of robotic technology and software... to perform better surgical incisions," said Dr. Tang Ha Nam Anh.

Dr. Hoang Van Dung - Head of the Orthopedics and Traumatology Department, Thai Nguyen Central Hospital.

Dr. Hoang Van Dung, Head of the Orthopedics Department at Thai Nguyen Central Hospital, views Vietnam's achievements in the fields of endoscopy and joint replacement as very promising.

He asserted that the number of patients requiring joint replacement surgery is currently increasing significantly, primarily due to improper exercise techniques and musculoskeletal diseases among the elderly.

The age of people requiring joint replacement is getting younger, especially men, those who frequently use stimulants like alcohol and beer, those who exercise improperly, and a small number due to bone necrosis or joint diseases…

At Thai Nguyen Central Hospital alone, the Orthopedics and Traumatology Department performs joint replacements on approximately 600 patients each year.

According to Dr. Hoang Van Dung, compared to the last 5 years, joint replacement surgery techniques have made significant progress in terms of materials and joint design. Modern technological achievements in joint replacement surgery have gradually entered the medical field, and Vietnam has been using 3D printing technology to assist in replacing fractured bones, bone loss, or cysts.

"Vietnamese doctors are now completely confident in performing joint replacements on patients in difficult locations, including complex cases," affirmed Dr. Hoang Van Dung.

Thai Nguyen Central Hospital, under the Ministry of Health, is recognized as a special-grade hospital according to Decision No. 811/QD-BNV dated July 14, 2021, of the Ministry of Interior, playing the role of a specialized and tertiary hospital for the Northern Midlands and Mountainous region.

To date, along with Bach Mai Hospital, Viet Duc Hospital, Cho Ray Hospital, Hue Central Hospital, and Hospital 108, Thai Nguyen Central Hospital has become the 6th hospital in the country to be classified as a special-disease hospital.
