Higher-level hospitals improve the quality of treatment for lower-level hospitals.
Dr. Pham Van Dau, Director of Ninh Binh Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, shared: “From 2010 to the present, the National Children's Hospital has implemented many training programs, technology transfer, professional support, consultations, and telemedicine services for Ninh Binh Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital. Thanks to this, our colleagues have confidently handled many difficult and complex cases, contributing to the gradual and comprehensive development of expertise, operational scale, and human resource quality. This is a very responsible, compassionate, and effective form of assistance.”
Thanks to the close and persistent support of leading experts from higher-level hospitals, Ninh Binh Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital has not only improved its professional capacity but also expanded its scale of operations, better meeting the healthcare needs of mothers and children in the province and surrounding areas.

Ninh Binh Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital participated in an online consultation for a difficult case.
Within the framework of technical transfer projects and programs, Ninh Binh Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital has proactively sent many staff members to major hospitals for specialized training.
At the National Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital, the hospital sent two doctors to participate in training courses under the following projects: telemedicine with a focus on gynecological cancer screening and colposcopy/electrocauterization techniques for the cervix, as per Project 1816.
These are all important techniques that help improve the effectiveness of diagnosis and early detection of gynecological diseases.
At the National Children's Hospital, four hospital staff members received training under Project 1816, covering techniques such as basic pediatric echocardiography, basic pediatric allergy, immunology, and rheumatology, and colposcopy and electrocautery. These courses helped doctors and nurses master clinical skills and improve their ability to manage cardiovascular, immunological, and gynecological diseases in children and women.
In addition, the hospital sent two nurses to Hanoi Medical University Hospital for training in endoscopic surgical instrumentation; and one doctor was sent to Bach Mai Hospital to participate in a course on interpreting respiratory function test results under the Project on Prevention and Control of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and Asthma. These training courses help the hospital build a strong workforce, meeting the demands of modern techniques in diagnosis and treatment.
In addition to in-person training courses, Ninh Binh Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital makes maximum use of online training through telemedicine programs.
The National Children's Hospital has organized numerous training courses with a large number of participants, demonstrating the need for updating knowledge among local medical staff. During the implementation period, Ninh Binh Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital participated in many online consultations with the National Children's Hospital, thereby shortening the geographical distance and improving the professional quality of doctors.
At the National Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital, online consultations are regularly held. Fifteen consultation and observer sessions have attracted 280 participants, supporting provincial-level doctors in handling complex obstetric and gynecological cases, while also improving clinical skills and case management thinking.
Develop advanced gynecological laparoscopic surgery and improve the capacity to manage complex cases.
Thanks to thorough training and technology transfer from central-level hospitals, Ninh Binh Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital has strongly developed laparoscopic surgery in gynecology. The hospital's doctors are now confident in performing techniques such as examination and treatment of cervical lesions, laparoscopic surgery to treat common gynecological diseases, and more complex cases that previously required referral to higher-level hospitals.
Furthermore, maintaining online consultations with leading experts helps the hospital promptly handle many severe and rare cases. When faced with difficult situations, doctors can immediately connect with central-level hospitals for advice and support in developing optimal treatment plans. This not only shortens treatment time but also minimizes risks for patients.
Practical benefits for the people and the local healthcare sector.
Continuous training and technology transfer have helped Ninh Binh Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital become more proactive, significantly reducing the number of cases requiring referral to higher-level hospitals, while also ensuring the hospital is always ready to provide support to lower-level facilities when needed.

The rapid response team from Ninh Binh Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital provided timely assistance, saving the life of a pregnant woman suffering from postpartum hemorrhage at Yen Mo Medical Center.
Recently, upon receiving information from the Yen Mo Medical Center reporting a critical case during a cesarean section, Ninh Binh Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital activated its rapid response team to provide emergency assistance, saving the life of a pregnant woman suffering from severe postpartum hemorrhage.
According to the doctors, during the surgery, the surgical team at Yen Mo Medical Center noted several challenging factors such as: multiple adhesions from previous cesarean sections, a high-hanging bladder, and placenta previa and placenta accreta, a very complex obstetric condition that is sometimes difficult to fully identify before surgery. These factors caused the mother to lose a significant amount of blood and posed a life-threatening risk.
The surgical team at Yen Mo Medical Center performed an emergency partial hysterectomy. However, the bleeding from the lower uterine segment remained complicated, so the on-site surgical team simultaneously managed the complication and called for emergency support from Ninh Binh Provincial Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital. The rapid response team from Ninh Binh Provincial Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, fully equipped with necessary equipment, medications, blood, and blood products, immediately dispatched to Yen Mo Medical Center. The support team collaborated with the surgical team at Yen Mo Medical Center to provide intensive resuscitation, transfusing 4 units of packed red blood cells and 2 units of fresh plasma, and performing a total hysterectomy to thoroughly control the bleeding. After more than an hour of effort, the team successfully controlled the surgical situation: the patient was out of critical condition and hemodynamics were stable.
Currently, the healthcare sector is promoting digital transformation and enhancing the capacity of lower-level healthcare facilities. The model of coordinated training and technology transfer between central-level hospitals and Ninh Binh Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital continues to be a prime example of the effectiveness of system connectivity. Furthermore, as the province's leading hospital in obstetrics and pediatrics, the hospital consistently provides professional support and training to lower-level healthcare facilities, thereby building patient trust and reducing the burden on higher-level hospitals.
