The Vietnam-Sweden Uong Bi Hospital reported that they recently saved the life of a 32-year-old male patient who was admitted with severe chest pain, shortness of breath, and a rapid pulse following a trauma. Ultrasound and imaging results revealed a large pericardial hematoma, signs of acute cardiac tamponade, and suspected cardiac trauma.
Immediately, the hospital activated an internal emergency alert. Doctors from the Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery, Anesthesia and Resuscitation departments quickly consulted and ordered emergency surgery, while simultaneously contacting the operating room and arranging for blood transfusions. Just 30 minutes after admission, the patient was transferred directly to the operating room. According to the doctors, with cases of heart trauma, "time is money," directly affecting the patient's chances of survival.

The surgical team performed a thoracotomy and found contusions and tears in the pericardium and left ventricle. The doctors removed all the blood clots from the pericardium, cleaned and repaired the torn myocardial tissue, and completely controlled the bleeding. Thanks to the prompt intervention, cardiac function was restored and hemodynamics stabilized.
Following the surgery, the patient is conscious. Currently, the patient's health is stable and they are being monitored and treated at the Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery.
According to doctors, heart injuries are dangerous, and patients can only be saved if they are detected early and undergo surgery promptly.
At Vietnam-Sweden Uong Bi Hospital, surgical treatment of heart injuries, especially in cases of cardiac trauma or heart wounds, is a highly specialized technique requiring a team with deep expertise, multidisciplinary collaboration, and state-of-the-art equipment. This is also one of the advanced techniques that the hospital has fully mastered, thereby contributing to improving the quality of treatment for dangerous cardiovascular diseases and providing a chance of survival for many patients.
