On December 11th, Quang Ninh Regional General Hospital in Quang Tri province announced that they had successfully performed emergency surgery on a teenage patient suffering from testicular torsion.

Doctors performed surgery to treat the patient's testicular torsion.
Previously, H.D.P. (15 years old, residing in Truong Ninh commune, Quang Tri province) was admitted to the hospital with severe pain in the left scrotum for the 8th hour.
Dr. Nguyen Chi Ngoc, Deputy Head of the General Surgery Department, stated that after clinical examination, the patient's left scrotum was found to be swollen, the testicle was higher than the opposite side, and the scrotal skin reflex was absent. This was identified as a typical sign of acute testicular torsion. Doppler ultrasound of the testicle revealed complete loss of vascular signal in the left testicle.
Given the patient's condition, the doctors ordered emergency surgery. During the surgery, the surgeon untwisted the testicle and warmed it with saline solution. Approximately 40 minutes after the operation, the testicular blood vessels regained good circulation, and the patient's testicle was preserved intact. After a period of recovery, the patient was discharged from the hospital.
According to Dr. Ngoc, testicular torsion is a condition where the spermatic cord twists, blocking the blood vessels supplying the testicle. If not surgically untwisted within the first 6 hours, the testicle may undergo irreversible necrosis, requiring removal. This not only affects fertility but also causes severe psychological trauma, especially in young men.
"In this case, the golden time for treatment had passed. We quickly performed surgery and implemented rehabilitation measures, and fortunately, the patient's testicle was preserved. We hope that other patients will pay more attention and come to the hospital early for treatment when they have symptoms of this disease," Dr. Ngoc shared.
Dr. Ngoc advises that men, especially teenagers and young men, should pay attention to signs of sudden, severe pain in the scrotum or lower abdomen; scrotal swelling, redness, or bluish discoloration; one testicle positioned higher than normal, accompanied by nausea, vomiting, and sweating. They should not self-treat but should immediately seek medical attention.
