Ensure adequate supply of vaccines in the Expanded Immunization Program.

According to information from the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology, in 2025, the Institutes of Hygiene and Epidemiology and the Pasteur Institute allocated and transported more than 34 million doses of vaccines to localities, ensuring sufficient supply for the expanded immunization program.

After a long period of disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in vaccination rates for many vaccines not meeting the targets set by the Ministry of Health , 2025 presents a high risk of outbreaks due to the accumulation of individuals who have not received all the required doses of vaccines according to the Expanded Immunization Program.

Associate Professor Dr. Duong Thi Hong - Deputy Director of the Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology, said that from the beginning of the year, following the direction of the Ministry of Health , the Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology has proactively supplied sufficient quantities of vaccines to localities to implement routine immunization and campaign immunization in some high-risk areas.

At the same time, the Ministry of Health is also stepping up efforts to review the vaccination history of children entering preschool and primary school in order to administer any missing vaccine doses.

Thanks to the guaranteed supply of vaccines, most localities have so far met the targets set by the Ministry of Health.

In accordance with Government Resolution No. 104/NQ-CP issued on August 15, 2022, on the roadmap for increasing the number of vaccines in the Expanded Immunization Program for the period 2021-2030, new vaccines are also gradually being introduced for free use in the Program.

Associate Professor Hong stated that in 2025, the Expanded Immunization Program continued to expand the deployment of the rotavirus vaccine to 26 out of 34 provinces/cities, prioritizing implementation in disadvantaged areas to ensure equitable access to vaccines, especially for ethnic minority and mountainous children.

In the first nine months of 2025 alone, nearly 800,000 rotavirus vaccinations were administered to children under one year old. The rotavirus vaccine is expected to be rolled out nationwide starting in 2026.

For many years, Vietnam Airlines, as the national airline, has been supporting the Ministry of Health in its efforts to improve public health by providing free transportation for vaccine shipments under the Expanded Immunization Program.

In 2025 alone, the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology provided free transportation for over 46 tons of goods on 51 domestic flights.

Transporting vaccines by air not only ensures the continuity and stability of the supply chain but also helps shorten the time it takes to deliver vaccines from the national vaccine stockpile to various regions.

Timeliness plays a crucial role in maintaining the effectiveness of vaccination campaigns, especially in the context of the ever-present risk of outbreaks of dangerous infectious diseases.

The Expanded Immunization Program has been implemented nationwide in Vietnam since 1985. Every year, millions of children and pregnant women receive free vaccines against dangerous infectious diseases such as tuberculosis, diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, hepatitis B, polio, measles, rubella, Japanese encephalitis, pneumonia/meningitis caused by Hib, and Rotavirus.

Over the past 40 years, the Expanded Immunization Program has contributed to public health care, ensured social equity, and achieved outstanding results such as eradicating polio, eliminating neonatal tetanus, and controlling diphtheria, pertussis, and measles.
