The pivotal role
According to aggregated data from the industry and trade sector in the Central and Central Highlands regions, the regional goods and services market in 2025 will be stable, with smooth circulation, effectively meeting production and consumption needs.
Businesses, shopping malls, supermarkets, and retail stores organize numerous promotional programs to stimulate consumer demand, contributing to balancing supply and demand and stabilizing prices, especially during peak seasons.
Total retail sales and merchandise revenue for the entire region in 2025 are estimated at 1.7 trillion VND, accounting for approximately 24% of the national total (estimated at 7.12 trillion VND), an increase of 12.3% compared to 2024.
Of these, 9 out of 11 localities are estimated to have double-digit growth, led by Lam Dong province with a 17% increase, followed by Khanh Hoa with 15.5%, Hue with approximately 15%, Da Nang with 14.8%, etc. These figures reflect strong domestic demand and significantly improved consumer confidence.
The regional commercial infrastructure system has received significant investment and is being gradually modernized to meet the shopping and consumption needs of residents and tourists.
The region currently has 2,736 markets, accounting for nearly 32% of the total number of markets nationwide; 285 supermarkets, 74 shopping malls; numerous convenience stores and many efficiently operating logistics warehouses.
Many localities are implementing logistics center, cold storage, and transit warehouse projects to support the flow of goods and the development of e-commerce.
E-commerce continues to grow strongly, becoming a modern and important distribution channel, promoting digital transformation in goods circulation, developing supply chains, and expanding the market for businesses' products in the region.
In 2025, the region's total export turnover is estimated to reach US$34.5 billion, imports are estimated at US$34.3 billion, resulting in a trade surplus of US$245 million, a bright spot in the national trade picture.
Some localities have impressive export growth rates, such as Nghe An (39%), Dak Lak (26%), Thanh Hoa (20%), Gia Lai (17%), Da Nang (11%), etc.
The main export product groups are electronics, textiles, footwear, processed agricultural and aquatic products, wood and wood products.
Export markets continue to expand to countries in the European Union, the United States, Northeast Asia, and ASEAN, contributing to market diversification and reducing dependence on a few traditional markets.
Promoting trade linkages
In 2026, the industry and trade sector in the Central and Central Highlands regions aims for higher growth in total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue than other economic regions, projected at 13.4%, equivalent to 1.93 trillion VND, linked to expanding the distribution network, developing commercial infrastructure, and promoting e-commerce.

The total value of goods exports and imports in the entire region is expected to reach approximately 76.1 billion USD, of which exports are estimated at 38.4 billion USD and imports at 37.7 billion USD, contributing to maintaining a trade surplus and making a positive contribution to the country's overall export turnover.
To contribute to the common goal, according to Ms. Le Thi Kim Phuong, Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Da Nang city, the formation of the Da Nang Free Trade Zone is of great importance to the development of the region.
In this context, mountainous, plateau, and coastal regions can all benefit from opportunities ranging from transshipment, preliminary processing, packaging, and manufacturing to re-export of goods.
This presents a great opportunity for agricultural products from the Central Highlands, light industrial goods from coastal provinces, as well as transit goods from Laos and Thailand via the East-West Economic Corridor.
When the Free Trade Zone operates efficiently, the logistics costs of the entire region will decrease, the competitiveness of goods will increase, and strategic investment flows will be directed more towards Central Vietnam.
In the context of cross-border trade trends, promoting regional linkages in e-commerce development is becoming increasingly crucial.
According to Ms. Le Hoang Oanh, Director of the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy (Ministry of Industry and Trade), during the period 2023-2025, a series of activities promoting regional linkages in e-commerce were organized in many provinces and cities, creating a positive ripple effect.
To date, the program has connected more than 300 manufacturing and trading businesses in the region with providers of digital platforms, logistics, and payment services, gradually forming a supply and consumption chain for products in the online environment.
The Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy will develop an implementation plan in line with the national e-commerce development plan for the period 2026-2030 as outlined in Decision No. 1568/QD-BCT dated June 3, 2025.
At the same time, the agency will continue to accompany, support, and advise on policies, and coordinate the implementation of regional e-commerce programs, contributing to the realization of the goal of developing green, circular, and sustainable e-commerce in the coming period.
