Coach Mai Duc Chung and captain Pham Hai Yen are confident of winning despite their opponent having many "naturalized" players.
Speaking at a press conference on the afternoon of December 13th, coach Mai Duc Chung said: "Our semi-final match against Indonesia promises to be a good one. Indonesia is a team that has improved rapidly compared to what I knew about them before. They had never reached the SEA Games semi-finals before, and compared to the team we faced in the AFF Cup in Hai Phong , they have changed a lot. In particular, the naturalized players have brought new energy to their team. This is good progress, and we will be cautious. I highly respect our opponent and will focus my best on this match."

I know Indonesia has made six substitutions, including four naturalized players. They might play long balls and be good at heading. But Vietnam doesn't play long balls; we focus on passing. We've also studied our opponents and will have a strategy to deal with their tall, strong players. We will press high, utilize our best abilities, and play in top form. Even though our opponents have many naturalized players, I believe Vietnam will win.

Captain Pham Hai Yen stated: "In the semi-final match, as in all the matches we've played, the coaching staff always gave us many instructions and made thorough preparations, always instilling the spirit so that we are ready to go onto the field with the determination to win."

We will try our best and hope for the support of the home crowd. We are determined to reach the final. I have been entrusted with the captain's armband by the coaching staff, replacing Huynh Nhu, since the beginning of the tournament. I feel very confident and still play cohesively with my teammates. Many of us are a long-standing team, so we all know how to strengthen that bond and work together to win."

Meanwhile, coach Akira Higashiyama said: "Our team is very happy to be in the semi-finals. This is a historic achievement for Indonesian football, as it's the first time we've been in the top four at the SEA Games. Regarding the semi-final, I feel confident and relaxed. Vietnam is a very strong opponent; they've won the SEA Games many times and are a strong contender for the championship. Playing against such a big team, our players will know how to apply what we've learned after the loss to Thailand to be able to compete effectively. Of course, we will try our best to play well in tomorrow's match and we really want to win. We will have a strategy to counter Vietnam's strength. Hopefully, the semi-final will be a great game."
