Creating sustainable livelihoods

Mrs. Nguyen Thi Bung's family is near-poor, their income depends only on hired work, but sometimes they have it, sometimes they don't, while they are old, sick today, sick tomorrow. The family is in need in every way. Sharing her situation, Nhon Ninh commune created conditions for the family to borrow capital at the Tan Thanh Social Policy Bank Transaction Office to invest in raising Muscovy ducks. The locality also mobilized benefactors to contribute 50 million VND to build her a Great Solidarity house.

Mrs. Nguyen Thi Bung and her husband work hard to earn extra income to cover their living expenses.

With a decent house and additional income from raising Muscovy ducks, Mrs. Bung's life has become less difficult. With the economy gradually stabilizing, the couple discussed leaving the near-poor household status to give preferential policies from the Party and the State to those with more difficult lives. According to Mrs. Bung's couple, the local government and philanthropists have paid attention and created many favorable conditions for the family. With the foundation they have, she will try to continue to strive to develop her life so that she can stand on her own two feet. It is also to help more and more families escape poverty like hers.

Mrs. Nguyen Thi Bung confided: “My husband and I have 4 children who all have their own families, and all of them are poor so they cannot help their parents much. My husband and I can only rely on each other to live. Now that we have a spacious house, we are happy to tears, because in our whole life we would never dare to dream of such a cozy and clean house. Now, my family tries hard to raise Muscovy ducks and process cashew nuts to make a living. Without the help of the local government, my family would not have the stable life we have today.”

In another case, Mrs. Pham Thi Hoa switched from low-yield rice farming to raising pangasius fry, but then, the price of pangasius dropped and disease spread, and Mrs. Hoa and her husband fell into heavy debt. At this time, the couple borrowed money everywhere to convert the pangasius pond to grow jackfruit but failed. When the family was almost at a dead end, fortunately, the local authorities created conditions for a loan at the Tan Thanh Social Policy Bank Transaction Office of 70 million VND to convert the land, buy seedlings, and fertilizer to grow jackfruit.

The jackfruit trees were planted for 18 months and started to yield fruit, allowing Ms. Hoa and her husband to repay their debts and their lives to gradually stabilize. Currently, after deducting all expenses, the family has an income of nearly 10 million VND/month. Ms. Pham Thi Hoa said: "Borrowing capital from the Social Policy Bank Transaction Office, the preferential interest rate is suitable for my family. Thanks to the timely attention and support of the commune, my family has the conditions to reproduce and strive to stabilize their lives."

Joy in the new home

For the poor and those in difficult circumstances, building a spacious, clean and beautiful house is a lifelong dream. For some, that dream is only achieved near the end of their lives. A typical example is the case of Mr. Tran Van Tang's family - nearly 70 years old, he was able to own a spacious house thanks to the help of local authorities, philanthropists and relatives.

It is known that Mr. Tang's house was in a serious state of disrepair and could collapse at any time. He always worried about a new house. There were even days when he was at work and saw it was about to rain, he was worried that the house would collapse, endangering his grandchildren. Mr. Tang emotionally said: "I am so happy to have a house! Now I can go anywhere with peace of mind, no longer afraid of the house collapsing. I will use the loan capital effectively to develop the family economy."

From 2020 to present, Nhon Ninh commune has mobilized many resources to build 135 houses of gratitude, love, and Great Solidarity.

Since 2020, Nhon Ninh commune has mobilized many resources to build 135 houses of gratitude, love, and solidarity. The houses that have been built are not only a place to live for people in difficult circumstances, but also a vivid demonstration of the spirit of sharing and companionship of all levels and sectors towards those who are less fortunate in life. This also kindles faith, hope, and motivates them to rise up from poverty and stabilize their lives.

By 2030: striving for no more poor households

The highlight in implementing the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction of the commune is the effective implementation of Sub-project No. 1 on Supporting Production Development under Project No. 3 on Supporting Production Development and Improving Nutrition.

Accordingly, the commune has implemented 2 projects on breeding cows, with 10 households participating; 2 plans to support community production development on rice and frog farming in cages, with 10 households participating. The total budget for implementing the project and program is nearly 650 million VND.

Mr. Dang Van Cuong - Deputy Head of Bang Lang Hamlet, shared: “Every year, the hamlet organizes a public and transparent review and assessment of poor and near-poor households. Depending on each poor and near-poor household, the locality has appropriate poverty reduction measures, while mobilizing resources to create conditions for them to rise up and stabilize their lives. Specifically, poor and near-poor households that are still of working age will be supported with loans, participate in livelihood diversification models or be introduced to jobs in companies and enterprises. For poor and near-poor households that still wait and rely on the help of the Party, the State, and the locality, we will step up information and propaganda work to raise their awareness and responsibility and gradually shift from the policy of "giving for free" to "giving with conditions". Thanks to that, the number of poor and near-poor households in the commune has decreased year by year, and the quality of life of the people has been increasingly improved.”

The Resolution of the 1st Party Congress of the Commune, term 2025-2030, sets the target of per capita income reaching 90 million VND/year by 2030; striving to have no poor households in the commune by the end of the term (except for poor households under social protection) and the rate of trained workers reaching 80%. In order for the resolution to come into life, the Commune Party Committee organizes implementation, assigns specific tasks to each cadre and Party member; promotes information and propaganda work, contributes to raising awareness of the poor; mobilizes resources to participate,...

Vice Chairman of Nhon Ninh Commune People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Truc said: "Looking back at the poverty reduction work, Nhon Ninh Commune has achieved many outstanding results. In the coming time, the commune will continue to promote information and propaganda work, contributing to raising people's sense of responsibility in poverty reduction work; effectively implementing the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction; mobilizing many resources to participate in building charity houses, Great Solidarity for poor households, families with difficult housing circumstances; maintaining and replicating good models and creative ways in poverty reduction work. With the motto "leaving no one behind", the commune will always accompany people on the journey to escape poverty; striving to have no poor households in the locality by 2030"./.

Implementing projects and plans to support community production development under the National Target Program for Sustainable Poverty Reduction in 2025, Nhon Ninh implemented 6 projects and production plans in hamlets 915, Xom Co, Trai Lon Bac, hamlets 2, 3, 4, Kenh Giua, Tan Long, Nam Ngan, Kenh Bich, Trai Lon with a total implementation cost of more than 1.3 billion VND. The implemented projects include: supporting rice production development, supporting comprehensive production development,...
