On September 1st, at the Party Central Headquarters, immediately after the talks, in the presence of General Secretary To Lam and First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba, President of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, along with high-level delegations from Cuba and Vietnam, Comrade Do Van Chien, Member of the Political Bureau, Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and Central Mass Organizations, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, on behalf of the Party, State and people of Vietnam, handed over the first installment of 385 billion VND to support the Cuban people.
The first tranche of aid was delivered directly to the Cuban people after 20 days of fundraising to provide timely support for urgent needs such as healthcare and food, helping them overcome difficulties and stabilize their lives.
The aid, delivered ahead of the National Day celebrations on September 2nd, is an effort by the Program to Support the Cuban People, spearheaded by the Vietnam Red Cross Society in coordination with relevant agencies and ministries, under the direction of the Party, the State, and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front.
Previously, immediately after the national launch ceremony on August 13, 2025 in Hanoi, the fundraising campaign for the Cuban people, "65 Years of Vietnam-Cuba Friendship," quickly received widespread support from all sectors of society. Through online fundraising channels, the program achieved its target of raising at least 65 billion VND in just 30 hours.
In the following week, nearly 2 million hearts turned towards Cuba through donations and specific local activities, extending the powerful ripple effect. Many provinces, cities, armed forces, bilateral friendship associations, large enterprises, social and professional organizations, cultural and educational institutions, and a large number of overseas Vietnamese joined in, demonstrating community responsibility and a special bond with the fraternal Cuban people, further affirming the image of a humane, loyal, and responsible Vietnam in the international community.
Mr. Nguyen Hai Anh, Vice President and General Secretary of the Vietnam Red Cross Society, emphasized: “Every contribution from the Vietnamese people today is a message of love and responsibility. Together, we are continuing to write the golden pages of the special solidarity between Vietnam and Cuba, leaving a mark for future generations.”
As of August 31, 2025, the total amount raised in the first phase reached nearly 385 billion VND. This figure is clear evidence of the strength of unity and widespread solidarity in society. This is only the initial result. The program will continue to be implemented extensively until October 16, 2025, mobilizing practical resources to support the Cuban people in overcoming difficulties in their lives, healthcare, education, and sustainable development.
In the coming period, the program's organizing committee will continue to promote widespread awareness and mobilization throughout society. Diverse, transparent, and convenient forms of support will be implemented so that all citizens, organizations, and businesses can participate.
The year 2025 marks the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Cuba (1960 – 2025). Throughout this journey, the two nations have always stood shoulder to shoulder, sharing both joys and sorrows, and supporting each other through hardships.
The "65 Years of Vietnam-Cuba Friendship" program is an opportunity for the Vietnamese people to express their respect and loyalty to the Cuban people; it is also a chance to further strengthen traditional friendship, contributing to consolidating peace, cooperation, and sustainable development.
