The exhibition was organized by the Vietnam Buddhist Association of Khanh Hoa province - the hometown of the Venerable Monk. This is one of a series of Buddhist cultural events celebrating the 2567th anniversary of the Buddha's birthday according to the Buddhist calendar.
The painting "The Unbreakable Heart" by artist Lam Nguyen Quang
The self-immolation of Venerable Thích Quảng Đức 60 years ago to protest the Ngô Đình Diệm regime's suppression of Buddhism marked the beginning of the collapse of the Ngô family's rule. The immortal heart (unburned) and the spirit of self-immolation for the Dharma of Bodhisattva Thích Quảng Đức have been an endless source of inspiration for many writers, poets, and artists.
The exhibition, held in the hometown of Bodhisattva Thich Quang Duc, brought together 15 artists and sculptors from across the country, showcasing 40 works in various styles and materials. These included artists such as Le Kiet, Lam Nguyen Quang, Do Truong Son, Tran Si Tu, Nguyen Van Thien, and Le Sam (oil paintings); Tam Tu and Bui Quang Vinh (ink paintings); Tri Phong, Phan Phan, and Giang Phong (acrylic); and Tran Quoc Au (wood carving). The majority of the exhibited paintings depicted Bodhisattva Thich Quang Duc. In addition, the calligraphic paintings by artists Giang Phong and Tam Tu also impressed viewers. Surprisingly, the exhibition featured the work of 8-year-old artist Duy Bao, whose acrylic painting of Buddha and Children was beautifully and innocently rendered.
