Having a sturdy, solid house has always been a dream for families in difficult circumstances. With the joint efforts of the entire political system and the community, poor and disadvantaged households now have warm and meaningful new homes. The personal joy of these families has blended with the nationwide joy in the heroic atmosphere of the historic April days, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and the reunification of the country (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025). Let's listen to their joy in their new homes…
* Ms. Doan Thi Tha (Phuoc Luong village, Dien Tho commune, Dien Khanh district): Joy in her twilight years
It seemed impossible to have a decent house in my old age because my children were facing many difficulties and lacked the means to support the repair or reconstruction of my severely dilapidated house. Then, the commune's Front Committee officials informed me that I was eligible for support to build a new house, and after the government held a groundbreaking ceremony, I was very happy. To date, the house is completed with an area of over 35 square meters; it has tiled floors, a bathroom, and a fully equipped kitchen. The total construction cost was 120 million VND, of which 60 million VND came from the program's support, and my children contributed 60 million VND. On the day I moved into my new house, I also received a television from the leaders of Dien Khanh district and a fan from Dien Tho commune. Now that I have a house and all the basic necessities, I couldn't ask for anything more. From now on, I can sleep soundly without worrying about preparing buckets and basins to catch rainwater from the leaky roof...
* Mr. Nguyen Van Tam (Hoa Thuan residential group, Cam Nghia ward, Cam Ranh city): The days of sheltering from the sun and rain are over.
For decades, I've lived alone in a makeshift house with cracked walls and a tarpaulin roof. In the dry season, I have to cover it with extra cloth or tarpaulin to keep cool; in the rainy season, I have to block out the rain and cover up other areas to prevent getting wet. The old house has no kitchen or toilet, making daily life inconvenient.
I am a freelance worker, without a stable job; I do whatever work I can find to earn just enough to get by. Life was already difficult, and my current house was in terrible disrepair, but I couldn't afford to rebuild it. Thanks to the support and financial assistance from the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, the province provided 60 million VND and the city provided 20 million VND to build me a new house. The new house, over 36 square meters, is spacious, airy, and fully functional, making my life much better than before. Having toiled my whole life, I never dared to imagine living in such a sturdy and comfortable house. Now, I no longer worry about shelter from the sun and rain. This is a motivation, giving me strength to work hard, save, and accumulate some capital for my old age.
* Ms. Cao Thi Duyen (A Xay village, Khanh Nam commune, Khanh Vinh district): The motivation for her family to rise out of poverty.
With the government's support of 30 million VND to repair my house, I was deeply moved and happy. Finally, my family's long-held dream has come true. Immediately, I called contractors to repaint, replace the roof, repair the floor, install doors, and redo the electrical wiring; the house is like it's wearing a "new coat." Now my family has a safe place to live, without worrying about shelter when it rains. Thank you to the provincial program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses and the local government for their care and support in repairing my family's house.
Besides receiving assistance for house repairs, my family had previously received two breeding cows from the government. Thanks to good care, the cows are now thriving. Since having the cows and the house repair assistance, my family has been given renewed motivation. Although life is still difficult, my wife and I work diligently in the fields every day and take on odd jobs to earn extra income. My family members encourage each other, saying we can't remain poor forever, especially since we are young, able to work, and receive so much care from the Party, the State, and the government.
* Ms. Nguyen Thi Hue (Tran Thi Tinh Street, Phuoc Hoa Ward, Nha Trang City): This gift is very meaningful.
My house, which is over 30 square meters and was built in 2000, is dilapidated and in disrepair. Every time it rains, rainwater leaks through the old corrugated iron roof and floods the entire house. As an elderly woman with no husband or children, and suffering from a spinal condition, my life is very difficult, and I don't have the means to repair the old house.
Before the Lunar New Year of 2025, I was informed by a local Front Committee official that I was eligible for a 30 million VND grant to renovate my house and asked what kind of assistance I needed. Because my old house was leaking, I requested assistance to repair the corrugated iron roof and reinforce the wooden attic to prevent leaks during the rainy season and improve living conditions. The ward officials sent workers to carry out the repairs right before Tet. Besides installing a new corrugated iron roof at the front of the house and fixing the leaks, the workers also repainted the entire house, making it very clean. The house renovations were completed just in time for Tet, so all the guests who visited praised the new, neat, and bright house. I was very happy.
For years, I worked hard, saving every penny just to cover my food and medicine. Now, with the government's support to repair my house, I feel more cheerful and healthier. This is a very meaningful gift, making me realize the concern of the government and local authorities for those in difficult circumstances. I would like to express my deepest gratitude and hope that other people in difficult situations like mine will also receive such care and support.
