Efforts to preserve and conserve folk songs in Trung Khanh district have received attention and shown many positive developments, contributing to the preservation and promotion of traditional national cultural features and enhancing the cultural and spiritual life of the people.
According to Ms. Chu Thi Vinh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Trung Khanh District: Every year, the district develops plans and directs the organization of folk song competitions and cultural and artistic exchange activities to discover talented individuals and replicate successful models; and establishes folk song clubs, especially in villages with the potential to develop community-based tourism. The district prioritizes and mobilizes all resources, promoting the socialization of the work of preserving and promoting values, aiming to turn traditional folk songs into a distinctive cultural tourism product, contributing to the promotion of economic , cultural, and social development in the locality.
The district's Association for the Preservation of Ethnic Folk Songs was established in 2016 and currently has 21 sub-branches in 21 communes and towns with 409 members. The entire district has established 67 clubs and performing arts groups with 1,349 members; club members are also members of the sub-branches. These clubs and sub-branches in communes and villages operate effectively, organizing many practical activities and movements, creating a beneficial playground for members to participate in activities, learn, exchange, research, collect, preserve, exploit, and promote traditional melodies. They also serve as the core singing group in villages and hamlets within the communes, and are key performers in major district and provincial cultural programs.
The work of collecting, composing, and setting new lyrics to folk melodies in the homeland is given attention. Regularly promoting and encouraging artisans, members, and those who still preserve books recording folk tales such as: Nam Kim, Thi Dan; Hong Nhan Tu Quy (in Nom script); and the Then luon songs of artisan members in the district. To date, over 150 songs have been composed and set to new lyrics based on folk melodies such as: Then singing, Dan Tinh, Phong Slu, Put Lan, Nang Oi, Sli Giang, Da Hai… Through these songs and melodies, the authors convey their thoughts and feelings to people and nature, creating motivation to live happier and more beautiful lives together.
Members of the branch association and clubs enthusiastically participate in local cultural and artistic activities, including major programs such as the Ban Gioc Waterfall Tourism Festival, the ceremony announcing the National Monument status of the Voice of Vietnam Radio Station site at Nguom Chieng Cave (1966-1978), the Eye of the Mountain scenic spot, folk song competitions, ethnic costume performances, Then singing, and Tinh lute playing... These folk song performances in the district contribute to the effective preservation and conservation of ethnic folk melodies; gradually implementing the Party's guidelines and the State's policies and laws, and contributing to the development of local tourism.
The teaching of folk songs to various groups, especially young people, has received attention, creating a widespread cultural and artistic movement in the district. The branch organized and coordinated with units such as the Training, Competition and Arts Center, the Culture and Tourism Information Center, and the Provincial Museum to organize vocal classes, folk singing, and Then singing and Tinh lute playing classes, attracting over 300 participants. In collaboration with the Union of Science and Technology Associations, the Provincial Association for the Preservation of Folk Songs of Ethnic Groups, and relevant departments and agencies, they implemented the project "Preservation and Restoration of the Dá Hai Thông Huề Cultural Heritage, Đoài Dương Commune, Trùng Khánh District, Cao Bằng Province". The project was completed and approved in 2023, contributing to the preservation, conservation, and promotion of intangible cultural values associated with tourism development in the district.
With the goal of preserving, disseminating, transmitting, and promoting the unique values of traditional folk songs, and raising awareness, pride, and self-consciousness among the people in preserving and promoting the traditional cultural values of the nation, from now until 2028, the district strives to have 50% of villages with regularly operating, high-quality folk art clubs and groups; 30% of folk songs, folk dances, and folk music of ethnic minorities will be supported for preservation and restoration in conjunction with tourism development; and support the piloting and maintenance of models of folk art clubs and groups serving tourism development. 100% of schools incorporate folk songs into the teaching of related subjects, local education content, and extracurricular activities, including festivals and exchanges for students. This aims to identify and cultivate outstanding talents, contributing to the preservation, safeguarding, and sustainable development of traditional folk melodies, meeting the needs of the people.
