I grew up in the field of journalism.

- A profession is essentially a means of survival. Some people choose a profession and thrive in their work, each day driven by a burning passion. Others find their profession is like a "calling," a source of worry, struggle, bitterness, and tears. Journalism is no exception to this general rule. Along with the joys and happiness of the profession, the setbacks, bitterness, and emotional responses to the lives and circumstances of others are all lessons that help us young reporters grow and mature.

Every mistake is a lesson.

Our Tuyen Quang Online Newspaper Fanpage has nearly 39,000 likes and over 112,000 followers. This achievement is primarily due to the direct guidance and support of the Tuyen Quang Newspaper Editorial Board, followed by the silent efforts of successive generations of administrators over the past five years. At one time, followers of the Tuyen Quang Online Newspaper were curious to know who the administrators were and why they posted such impactful statuses. The readers' interest in the page is a small joy for us, as our daily articles receive hundreds, even thousands, of interactions. But that's not all. We have made many mistakes and delays, resulting in tears.

Reporters from Tuyen Quang Newspaper are working on-site.

In the days leading up to the Lunar New Year of the Snake 2025, while everyone was busy with year-end tasks, cleaning, shopping, and preparing for a complete family celebration, our Admin team continued to maintain the Fanpage. That day, on the Government Information Fanpage, I posted the information: "Focus resources, actively provide emergency care, and urgently hold a consultation across Bach Mai Hospital to develop the best treatment plan for 32 children suspected of rat poison poisoning." Immediately, the news attracted hundreds of interactions. But just a few minutes later, I was asked to remove the post.

The Government Information page wasn't wrong, the information wasn't incorrect, but it was outdated information. Republishing it at that time was also insensitive because the students were receiving considerable attention from the province; many had stabilized and were transferred to the Provincial General Hospital for continued monitoring. Just three days later, all of them were stable and discharged to return home with their families for Tet (Lunar New Year).

A moment of professional insensitivity on my part has affected both the Editorial Board and the department's leadership. I deeply regret causing harm to the entire team. "A small mistake can have far-reaching consequences," and journalism can sometimes be very dangerous.

The essential requirement for a journalist.

Although I had heard people say, "Anyone who works under Mr. Cong will cry at least once," during the years I worked in the Politics - Society - Reader Relations department, and then in the Economics department, perhaps out of understanding for my fragility and sensitivity, he never once spoke harshly to me. Later, when the departments were streamlined, Mr. Trinh Thanh Cong became the Head of our Reporters Department. It was a very sad time when he had to face the terrible disease of cancer. I knew he was a serious professional. And despite being exhausted from battling the disease and undergoing long-term chemotherapy, he still worked his hardest as long as he could.

Each trip is a new experience for the reporter.

At the end of June 2024, I was assigned to accompany the Organizing Committee of the provincial youth and children's creative competition to inspect the implementation of the competition in the districts. On the first day, I accompanied the inspection team to Lam Binh and Chiem Hoa districts. The next day, the team went to inspect Na Hang and Yen Son districts, but because it coincided with another event, I only accompanied the inspection team to Yen Son without reporting back to the department head. At that time, Mr. Trinh Thanh Cong – our department head – was very angry and called to scold me. To this day, I no longer remember the specific words, but I can summarize it as, "If you can't do your job seriously, then quit." In my seven years of working in journalism, that was probably the time I cried the most, both out of sympathy for a colleague battling illness and anger at how he could say such harsh words.

Now that he has passed away, we can't bring ourselves to be angry with him again, even if we wanted to. "Going to the scene to write a good news story," "Listening to the breath of life," "Don't be upset if I scold you anymore"... Young reporters like me have gradually matured because of his meticulous wording, his reminders to take our work seriously, and because of the love for the profession passed down from a respected older brother, a mentor, and a colleague.

Growing up through the profession

Over time, we grew and matured in the field of journalism.

I wasn't naturally gifted at journalism, because in the past, I was quiet and introverted. The journalism profession requires me to improve my communication skills, to be more confident, more outgoing, and more tactful... With age, young journalists like me gradually improve ourselves to meet the demands of the profession.

When Tuyen Quang Newspaper embraced digital transformation, every reporter had to learn how to create multimedia works: e-magazines, infographics, videos on digital platforms... Everything was difficult in the beginning. Learning is never easy. We complained because other newspapers had professional video creators and designers, but we continued to learn and practice creating journalistic works in new genres.

Young reporters from Tuyen Quang Newspaper work using smartphones at Kiet Bac Temple, Hai Duong.

Perhaps knowledge is the most beautiful adornment for each person. It is also what makes young reporters like us more confident. The achievements of Tuyen Quang Newspaper today, with its enhanced prestige and position, are the answer to the sound decisions of the Editorial Board. It is also thanks to those decisions, along the bumpy and challenging paths we have traveled, that we have grown and matured in the field of journalism.

We young reporters learn so much from each trip. We learn about the brutal war with its tragic yet incredibly proud stories of the Heroic Vietnamese Mothers, about the examples of those who overcame adversity to take control of their lives, about immersing ourselves in every aspect and breath of life to bring the most authentic information to our readers… We are diligent farmers cultivating the field of words. The 100th anniversary of Vietnamese Revolutionary Journalism is also a time for our young generation to slow down, look back at the generations before us, and continuously learn, cultivate, and improve ourselves to best meet the demands of our profession.

We young journalists aspire to be present at every event, at every historical step of the nation, with each article eagerly awaited by people from all walks of life. "Bright eyes, pure heart, sharp pen" is the guiding principle that motivates young journalists to constantly strive, learn, and grow in their profession.
