From Party resolutions to specific criteria in schools.

In Kien An ward, Hai Phong city, the orientation towards building socialist schools is not limited to slogans or short-term movements, but is being concretized through resolutions, projects, and clear criteria in each educational institution.

Right from the first term following the administrative reorganization, the Party Committee of Kien An Ward identified education as a crucial foundation for sustainable local development. The resolution of the first Ward Party Congress set the goal of improving the overall quality of education, building a democratic, modern, and humane learning environment; and fostering a generation of students with knowledge, ethics, social responsibility, and the ability to adapt to the digital age.

Mr. Nguyen Thien Kim, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Kien An Ward, said that the locality is developing a plan for educational development linked to the orientation of building socialist schools in accordance with the directives of Hai Phong City and the education sector.

Accordingly, the focus is on investing in synchronized infrastructure, improving the quality of the teaching staff, innovating management practices, strengthening digital transformation, and building a safe and happy educational environment.

"Education should not only impart knowledge but also shape character, cultivate life ideals, civic responsibility, and integration skills for students. The criteria for building socialist schools must aim at the holistic development of human beings," Mr. Kim emphasized.

Currently, Kien An ward has 17 schools at all levels. During the past school year, many schools have shown significant improvements in both educational quality and the school environment. Several schools have been selected as model schools, focusing on building strong Party branches and promoting comprehensive leadership within the school.

The ward Party Committee also directed schools, including Bac Son Secondary School, to develop model Party branch meetings on socialist schools. This serves as a basis for unifying understanding and action, enabling schools to jointly develop specific plans tailored to each unit.

According to Ms. Hoang Thi Huong, Head of the Culture and Social Affairs Department of Kien An Ward, schools in the area are implementing a plan with three major objectives: building a democratic educational environment; improving the overall quality of education; and ensuring school security and safety.

The core of the model is student-centered learning. Schools should not only teach academics but also create an environment where students can develop holistically in terms of character and abilities, learning to love, share, and be responsible to the community.

Based on that direction, many schools in the area have begun to transform through concrete actions such as building happy classrooms, strengthening life skills education and cultural etiquette, investing in smart classrooms, and applying digital technology in teaching and learning.

Educational activities have also been reformed to focus on practical experiences, traditional historical education, fostering patriotism, civic awareness, and a desire to contribute to society among students.

Schools become places for nurturing character.

At the preschool level, Quan Tru Preschool is also one of the units selected to pilot the socialist school model in the locality.

According to Ms. Bui Thi Thu Huong, the school aims to build a modern, safe, friendly, and child-centered educational environment.

According to the plan, the school will soon receive investment in many modern equipment for its functional rooms to meet the learning and playing needs of the children. The school will have experiential and creative spaces, and a physical activity area suitable for preschool-aged children.

Beyond physical care, the school also focuses on instilling fundamental qualities in children such as love, honesty, responsibility, and respect; while simultaneously developing communication, cooperation, independence, and adaptability skills.

"The most important thing is that every child is loved and feels happy and safe when they come to school," Ms. Huong said.

Having been dedicated to the profession for many years, teacher Pham Thi Huong believes that preschool teachers should not only teach children to sing and dance but also understand their psychology and know how to accompany each child throughout their growth process.

To meet the demands of educational reform, she regularly engages in professional development, applying digital technology to create visually engaging lessons and lively videos to keep children interested in learning. According to Ms. Huong, concretizing the criteria of a socialist school will help her and her colleagues perform their professional duties better, meeting the requirements of educational reform and the holistic development of children.

At Tran Thanh Ngo Primary School, the socialist school model is demonstrated through engaging activities that take place daily in the classroom.

According to Ms. Pham Thi Hai An, the school has just completed its plan for building a socialist school. The school's biggest goal is to create a democratic, disciplined, modern, and humane educational environment; and to develop students comprehensively in terms of morality, intellect, physical health, and aesthetics.

The school aims to cultivate responsible citizens with ideals, patriotism, and the ability to integrate into the global community while preserving the national cultural identity and traditions of Hai Phong city.

Based on that orientation, the school has identified core values including love, responsibility, discipline, creativity, integration, and humanism. Many educational activities are implemented in an experiential direction, developing students' abilities instead of just one-way knowledge transmission.

One of the highlights is the "happy classroom" model. Each classroom has a reading corner, an emotional corner, and a "What I Want to Say" mailbox where students can confidently share their thoughts and feelings with their teachers.

The school also conducts regular student satisfaction surveys to listen to their voices and adjust its teaching methods accordingly.

Through extracurricular activities, students not only develop skills but also receive education in traditions, gratitude, and civic responsibility.

In the process of educating students, the school closely follows the 2018 General Education Program and the directives of the education sector. The criteria of a socialist school are also a regular task that the school has been and is currently implementing. Following directives from higher levels of government, the school's plan for building a socialist school has been developed in more detail and given a clearer definition.

This school year, Tran Thanh Ngo Primary School successfully organized a seminar titled "Gratitude to Parents, Teachers, and the School," with the participation of all students, leaving many emotional impressions. Many students expressed their gratitude and apologized to their parents for the first time; hugs and handshakes helped strengthen the bond between family and school.

In addition, the "Journey to the Roots" experiential activity takes students to visit the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, learn about national history through practical activities, folk games, and revolutionary tradition education.

Lessons about patriotism and civic responsibility thus become more engaging and relatable to students.

Alongside character education, the school is promoting digital transformation and investing in modern facilities. Between 2026 and 2030, the school plans to build additional smart classrooms, STEM-Robotics rooms, foreign language rooms, and computer labs; 100% of classrooms will be connected to the internet and utilize digital lesson plans.

According to Ms. Hai An, digital transformation is not intended to replace the role of teachers, but rather to make teaching and learning more effective and create a modern learning environment for students.

"If education relies solely on technology without love and care, it will become rigid and lifeless. The most important thing is for students to feel happy every day when they come to school," Ms. Hai An shared.

From small classrooms in Kien An, the socialist school model is gradually being realized through concrete and practical actions. The highest goal is not only to improve the quality of teaching and learning but also to build a humane, democratic, and modern educational environment; where each student can develop comprehensively, becoming knowledgeable, responsible citizens with a desire to contribute to their homeland and country.
