Speaking at the "Peace Wish" ceremony held on the afternoon of May 12th at Pier 914, Mr. Uong Chu Luu emphasized that this was not only a ceremony of gratitude, but also "a meeting of history, of national memory, and of the aspiration for peace."
According to Mr. Uong Chu Luu, Pier 914 is a special historical testament to the patriotism and immense sacrifices of generations of ancestors for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland. The number "914" has become a symbol of the hundreds and thousands of outstanding sons and daughters of the nation who fell in Con Dao prison. The blood and tears of revolutionary soldiers and patriotic Vietnamese people have mingled with the sea and sky of Con Dao to write an immortal epic of the Vietnamese nation.

From that land steeped in suffering yet also shining with an indomitable spirit, the message of peace is raised with the depth of history and responsibility for the future. Mr. Uong Chu Luu affirmed that the Vietnamese people are a peace-loving nation, but to achieve peace, the Vietnamese people have had to endure countless wars, losses, and sacrifices. Therefore, Vietnam deeply understands the sacred value of peace, independence, and the right to live in freedom and happiness.
In the context of today's conflict-ridden and divided world , the message from Con Dao Island carries even deeper contemporary significance. According to Mr. Uong Chu Luu, humanity today needs dialogue instead of confrontation, unity instead of hatred, compassion, sharing, and a shared sense of responsibility to protect lasting peace for future generations.

The moment white doves were released into the sky over Con Dao during the "Peace Wish" ceremony was not only a symbolic ritual, but also conveyed the aspiration for a world of peace, cooperation, and sustainable development. From the sacred Pier 914, those attending the ceremony pledged to continue the patriotic and humane traditions of the Vietnamese people, and to further cultivate solidarity and friendship among nations.
The “Journey of Heritage and Peace” 2026 in Con Dao is an opportunity to pay tribute to history, educate about the tradition of “drinking water, remembering the source,” and contribute to affirming Vietnam’s role and responsibility in promoting a culture of peace and strengthening solidarity and friendship between the Vietnamese people and the people of the world.

From Con Dao Island – a place that once bore the marks of the brutal suffering of war – the message of peace today becomes even more sacred and powerful: peace is not something that comes naturally, but is the result of countless sacrifices; and preserving peace is always the shared responsibility of every nation, every people, and every peace-loving individual in the world.
