- In order to diversify livelihoods, increase people's income, and promote sustainable agricultural development, in early 2026, the People's Committee of Chau Son commune implemented a model for cultivating Ganoderma lucidum mushrooms.
Ganoderma lucidum, also known as Reishi mushroom, is a medicinal mushroom with many health benefits and significant economic value. The cultivation technique is not overly complicated and can utilize small areas indoors or under the canopy of natural forests. Given these advantages, the Chau Son commune government has researched and implemented support for local people to develop this model.

Accordingly, from March 2026, the People's Committee of Chau Son commune implemented a model for cultivating Ganoderma lucidum mushrooms at the Anh Khoa Agricultural, Forestry and Medicinal Herbs Cooperative (Na Xoong hamlet, Chau Son commune) with 7 members, mainly engaged in planting, caring for forests and medicinal herbs. The project has a total investment of over 90.8 million VND, of which the State supports 74 million VND, and the remainder is counterpart funding. Participating in the project, the cooperative received support in the form of 2,000 Ganoderma lucidum mushroom spawn bags.
Mr. Nguyen Van Ninh, a member of the Anh Khoa Agricultural, Forestry and Medicinal Herbs Cooperative, said: "After receiving mushroom spawn, I and other cooperative members were guided on cultivation techniques, harvesting, and preservation. After a period of cultivation, I found that Ganoderma lucidum mushrooms are relatively easy to care for and don't require much labor. During cultivation, the most important steps are monitoring humidity, temperature, cleaning the growing area, and watering regularly."
Currently, the cooperative has harvested its first batch of Ganoderma lucidum mushrooms, yielding over 30 kg of fresh mushrooms; it is expected that the next harvest will continue in July 2026 with a yield increase of 30-40%. According to calculations, with good care, each mushroom substrate bag can yield 4-5 harvests per year, averaging about 0.25 kg of fresh mushrooms per bag per year, with market prices ranging from 600,000 to 700,000 VND/kg for fresh mushrooms and from 1.4 to 1.5 million VND/kg for dried mushrooms.
To ensure stable output, the cooperative has proactively developed a plan for product distribution, connecting with medicinal herb purchasing and trading establishments in Bac Ninh province. At the same time, the cooperative is researching expanding production scale, aiming to build a brand for its Ganoderma lucidum mushrooms.
Mr. Be Anh Khoa, Director of Anh Khoa Agricultural, Forestry and Medicinal Herbs Cooperative, said: Through the implementation process, the cooperative has found that the model of cultivating Ganoderma lucidum mushrooms has great development potential and is suitable for the local conditions. In the future, the cooperative plans to expand the scale to about 10,000 mushroom substrates, and at the same time research and develop a model of growing mushrooms under the forest canopy to take advantage of natural resources and improve economic efficiency. In addition, the cooperative also aims to build an OCOP product for Ganoderma lucidum mushrooms to gradually establish its brand, expand the market, and thereby increase income for cooperative members.
Commenting on the model, Mr. Nguyen Cong Hung, Chairman of the Chau Son Commune People's Committee, said: "Not only does it bring economic benefits, the model of cultivating Ganoderma lucidum mushrooms also contributes to raising people's awareness of environmental protection and forest resource conservation, in line with the orientation of developing green, safe, and sustainable agriculture. In the future, the commune government will continue to integrate and effectively utilize capital sources to support production development to expand the model; encourage people to boldly change the crop structure, develop high-economic-value medicinal plants associated with forest protection and development. At the same time, the commune will coordinate with specialized agencies to organize training courses and guide the technical process of planting and caring for Ganoderma lucidum mushrooms; proactively seek and connect with product consumption, aiming to develop deep processing to increase value. Especially now, the Commune People's Committee has planned a medicinal plant cultivation area to gradually form a concentrated medicinal plant production area, contributing to increasing income and creating sustainable livelihoods for local people."
It can be seen that the implementation of the Ganoderma lucidum mushroom cultivation model has initially yielded positive results, opening up new avenues for economic development. It is expected that, with the advantage of abundant forest area and favorable climatic conditions, the Ganoderma lucidum mushroom cultivation model will become one of the production directions that helps people increase their income, create jobs, and gradually promote sustainable economic development in Chau Son.
