Driven by a desire to spread a green lifestyle to everyone, Ms. Ho Hoang Oanh founded the No Waste to Go grocery store (Ngu Hanh Son ward) to provide essential household products in a unique "fill-up" format. She encourages customers to bring their own glass bottles, jars, and containers to the store and refill them with their favorite products, thus avoiding plastic waste that pollutes the environment.
Ms. Oanh said that the shop always tries to choose suppliers who use a "refill" model (meaning they collect old cans, bottles, and jars for reuse). This is how the shop not only spreads a green lifestyle to consumers but also to suppliers. In addition, the shop has a small corner for used items that you can take and use for free. Or, if you have old items or clothes that you no longer need, don't throw them away; bring them to the shop so that old items are not wasted and can be reused by someone else who needs them.
“To date, after 6 years of operation, thanks to our choice of filling containers with glass jars and bottles, the shop has reduced the use of 172,569 plastic boxes and bags. I believe that these small actions of mine will help others change their thinking and actions to live more environmentally friendly lives,” Ms. Oanh happily said.
Following Ms. Oanh's lead in spreading the green living message, An Villa Boutique Resort (Hoi An Dong Ward) also says no to plastic waste. Ms. Tran Thi Thu Trang, Manager of An Villa, said that in recent years, An Villa has aimed for sustainable, environmentally friendly development by minimizing plastic waste, plastic bottles, and plastic bags. At the same time, An Villa says no to cleaning products with chemical ingredients. Therefore, the hotel proactively makes hand sanitizer from fruit peels such as oranges, grapefruits, lemons, and tangerines... This helps An Villa strongly promote a green lifestyle not only to resort guests but also to a large number of staff.
For over 10 years, a group of nearly 10 women from the An Trung 1A Women's Association (An Hai Ward) have diligently worked tirelessly, regardless of the weather, pushing their carts to every alley and every household to sort and collect waste. Thanks to their perseverance, the An Trung 1A Women's Association is able to raise funds annually for orphaned students, support the poor, and assist disadvantaged women members.
Ms. Huynh Thi Le, Head of the An Trung 1A Women's Association, shared that the association has 122 female members, most of whom have responded positively to the movement. Waste is sorted into four categories: organic waste, recyclable waste, hazardous waste, and other non-biodegradable waste. Accordingly, the association collects and sells recyclable waste such as plastic bottles, packaging, and paper to raise funds. Many women compost organic waste from plants and animals to care for plants in their homes and neighborhoods. Hazardous waste and other non-biodegradable waste are directly sent to environmental workers for proper disposal.
"I am very happy that the women have been spreading the message of green living to everyone in the residential area in particular and the people of the city in general. I think that, from the small actions of the women's association members, we will contribute to building an environmentally friendly lifestyle and ensuring health safety for ourselves," Ms. Le said.
It can be said that the small actions of these women have contributed greatly to the thoughts and actions of the majority of people in protecting the environment or promoting local culture. This is especially true for women leaders and business owners, who are the "leaders" that give strength to small actions, enabling them to create greater meaning.
