Over the past three years, Hue City's tourism industry has intensified its efforts to promote plastic reduction among tourism businesses through 10 training sessions with 690 participants, "Coffee Talk" sessions, the establishment of specialized Zalo groups, and direct collaboration with businesses. As a result, 102 businesses/households have signed commitments to reduce plastic use, and 12 hotels have pioneered the practice of reducing plastic in their operations.
The Hue City tourism sector has collaborated with the TVA/WWF - Vietnam Project to implement in-depth training for travel agencies and finalize the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for plastic reduction. To date, five travel businesses have proactively operated plastic-reduction tours, along with two pilot tours from the project; simultaneously, four community tourism destinations – Thuy Bieu, Dam Chuon, Thanh Toan Tile Bridge, and Ngu My Thanh - Con Toc – have officially launched plastic-reduction models.
Collaborative activities and experience sharing were enhanced with support from the TVA/WWF-Vietnam Project through two study tours, four surveys, and the "Connecting the Supply Ecosystem - Green Consumption" event, which attracted over 250 delegates and 30 booths showcasing green products. The Plastic Reduction Action Partner Group also actively participated in conferences in various localities to expand its network and promote green consumption.
In addition, many new models have been effectively implemented: 12 public waiting areas and free drinking water dispensers have been launched, attracting thousands of users; a plastic-free restaurant model has been developed at An Nhien Garden; a glass bottle recycling model has been implemented at Sam Bo Chinh Hoang Gia; a plastic reduction integrated teaching model has been implemented at Hue Tourism College, and a Sustainable Tourism Vocational Training and Practice Center has been launched; along with a platform guiding visitors to refill water refills, accommodation establishments committed to reducing plastic, and plastic-reducing destinations on the Hue-S application, helping tourists conveniently access green tourism services.
In the coming period, the tourism industry will continue to promote awareness and responsibility among stakeholders involved in tourism activities; encourage and support businesses to transition to green, environmentally friendly tourism business models; strengthen coordination with organizations and localities in waste management, implement sustainable tourism models, and reduce plastic tourism, thereby contributing to realizing the goal of building Hue into a "green - clean - bright" destination, developing tourism in a green and responsible direction.
