This is Vietnam's first power plant project cluster to use imported liquefied natural gas (LNG), marking a pioneering step in the roadmap to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and realize the goal of net zero emissions by 2050.
The Nhon Trach 3 and Nhon Trach 4 power plant projects, invested by PV Power, have a total investment of approximately US$1.4 billion. The project plays a pioneering role in the future chain of LNG power plants of the Vietnam National Energy Corporation, contributing to the formation of a modern LNG power center, enhancing electricity supply capacity, and ensuring national energy security in the context of a strong shift towards clean energy.

With a total capacity of over 1,600 MW, this power plant complex is expected to supply over 9 billion kWh per year when operating stably, supplementing an important base power source for the national power system, especially in the South. It also provides a flexible power source, supporting system dispatch and balancing as the demand for renewable energy continues to rise.
The Nhon Trach 3 and Nhon Trach 4 power plant complex commenced construction on May 15, 2022. Throughout the construction process, more than 3,200 officials, engineers, and workers from the investor, the general contractor, and 138 subcontractors participated; approximately 40,000 tons of steel structures and equipment, along with 120,000 m³ of concrete, were constructed and installed, totaling 10 million man-hours of labor.

The Nhon Trach 3 and Nhon Trach 4 power plants boast numerous "firsts." They are the first LNG-fueled power plants in Vietnam. They are the largest gas-fired thermal power plant in Vietnam to date, featuring the largest generating units. The project utilizes state-of- the- art equipment and technology, employing 9HA.02 gas turbines; possessing the highest technology, capacity, and efficiency globally, including the capability of co-firing hydrogen. It has the highest efficiency in Vietnam currently. It is the first single-shaft power plant in Vietnam, with a configuration of gas turbines, steam turbines, and generators connected co-axially. Furthermore, it was financed without a government guarantee, with a loan value of nearly US$1 billion…
