On December 12th, in Hanoi , the Department of Domestic Market Management and Development (Ministry of Industry and Trade), in collaboration with the Japan Patent Office (JPO), the Japan Trade Promotion Organization (JETRO), and the International Intellectual Property Protection Forum (IIPPF), co-organized the Vietnam-Japan Intellectual Property Protection Workshop.
The event aims to enhance professional exchange between Vietnamese market management forces and Japanese organizations and businesses; update methods of intellectual property infringement; and promote cooperation in detecting, identifying, and handling infringing goods in the market.
Mr. Tran Huu Linh, Director of the Department of Domestic Market Management and Development, stated: Recently, acts of intellectual property infringement have become more sophisticated, especially in the fast-moving consumer goods, fashion , cosmetics, and electronic components sectors.
Counterfeiting is not limited to external appearances but also involves new methods such as using high-tech copied labels, organizing sales through digital platforms, or exploiting intermediaries to conceal the origin of goods. These trends create an urgent need for market management forces to update their skills, enhance coordination, and apply technology to inspection and supervision work.

"We believe that enforcement agencies need stronger support in terms of goods identification tools, centralized databases provided by businesses, as well as in-depth training programs on identifying signs of infringement. Cooperation from international organizations and businesses owning intellectual property rights, through activities such as today's workshop, will help market management forces equip themselves with the ability to detect and handle intellectual property infringement," Mr. Tran Huu Linh expressed.
According to representatives from the Department of Domestic Market Management and Development, the collaboration with JPO, JETRO, and IIPPF is a practical activity supporting market management forces in identifying new methods of intellectual property infringement. Therefore, the Department focuses on strengthening field skills, updating knowledge, and expanding international cooperation to improve the effectiveness of inspections and handling of violations. Within the framework of the workshop, three Japanese companies with established brands directly shared their expertise related to intellectual property protection in the Vietnamese market.
Businesses presented the current situation of counterfeit goods in their respective industries, analyzing emerging methods of infringement and the difficulties in coordinating on-site enforcement. Based on this, business representatives provided guidance on identifying genuine and counterfeit goods through specific technical indicators, helping law enforcement and professional staff update their knowledge in recognizing infringing products.

In addition to the presentations, the businesses also introduced a series of promotional videos designed to raise awareness about intellectual property protection and support the dissemination of information to authorities and consumers in preventing and combating counterfeit goods. Notably, within the framework of the workshop, JPO, JETRO, IIPPF, and the Department of Domestic Market Management and Development agreed to strengthen cooperation in several key areas to enhance the effectiveness of intellectual property protection in Vietnam.
The parties committed to promoting the sharing of data and information on product groups at risk of counterfeiting; expanding practical training programs for market management forces; and coordinating support for businesses in both countries to enhance understanding and compliance with intellectual property protection regulations. Simultaneously, the parties will promote consumer-oriented communication activities to limit the consumption of infringing goods, while maintaining a regular coordination mechanism to ensure close and continuous cooperation in the enforcement of intellectual property rights in the Vietnamese market. This is an annual cooperation activity between Japanese agencies and Vietnamese enforcement forces, contributing to increased market transparency, consumer protection, improved capacity to identify intellectual property infringement, and the refinement of coordination mechanisms in the future.
