Discussing the situation of Vietnamese pangasius exports in the first 2 months of the year, Mr. Truong Dinh Hoe - General Secretary of the Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) - informed that Vietnamese pangasius exports had positive growth in May 2, 2024.
Specifically, in January pangasius exports reached 1 million USD, near the end of February it reached about 165 million USD, both months increased nearly double compared to the same period last year.
“In 2023, pangasius exports will have a sad color scheme, but the first 2 months of the year will show good signs. It comes from small markets such as England, Canada, Mexico, especially Brazil. Last year, exports to the "land of samba" increased nearly 80% in the last quarter, even growing in three digits in the last month. Vietnam still has a lot of room to develop more value-added products instead of just exporting frozen pangasius fillets to this market," Mr. Hoe said.
Explaining further the reason for the growth, Mr. Hoe said that consumer demand in some of the main importing countries of Vietnamese pangasius is on the rise. For example, China - the market that imports the most pangasius from Vietnam, has increased imports nearly 1 times since January compared to the same period in 3. Or like the US market, after 2023 months of 11, there has been a continuous decline. Due to inventory waiting for consumption, from December 2023 until now, the amount of inventory has been expanded.
As a large enterprise in the field of pangasius export processing in more than 30 countries around the world, of which the US and China are two key markets, Nam Viet Group also acknowledges the pangasius export situation in 2023. “not exciting”.
Ms. Do Thi Thu Thuy - sales director of Nam Viet Group - said that in 2023, instead of exporting pangasius with less prosperity, the group will turn to the domestic market.
“But in the first months of 2024, the market will go smoothly again because countries started placing large orders. The group has also recorded a lot of growth," Ms. Thuy said.
Meanwhile, a seafood export company in Dong Thap province informed that potential customers in the US have "resumed" ordering pangasius fillets after nearly a gloomy year. This person said: "They hoard goods to supply the huge demand of hotels and restaurants. But inventory is running out, new orders are starting to return."
Currently, pangasius exports are growing, so many export purchasing businesses believe that raw pangasius prices have increased. Specifically, increasing from 25.000 - 26.000 VND/kg in 2023 to 28.000 - 29.000 VND/kg in early 2024.
