Ahead of the opening of the Hue Traditional Craft Festival 2023 (tonight, April 28th), many locals and tourists were delighted to see the statue of the bowing man - from South Korea - appear in 3/2 Park, on the southern bank of the Perfume River.
The statue of the bowing man is located in 3/2 Park, on the banks of the Perfume River.
Mr. Vo Le Nhat, Chairman of the People's Committee of Hue City, said that the statue of the bowing man ( Greetingman ) was a gift from Mr. Cho Kwang-han, Mayor of Namyangju (Gyeonggi Province, South Korea), to Hue City during the visit of the Namyangju delegation and the signing of a memorandum of understanding to establish friendly cooperative relations on October 30, 2018.
After receiving the statue, Hue City erected it at the location agreed upon by the Standing Committee of the Thua Thien Hue Provincial Party Committee. According to the plan, tomorrow, April 29th, the People's Committee of Hue City will officially hold a ceremony to receive the statue from representatives of Namyangju City (South Korea).
The "unexpected" appearance of the statue in 3/2 Park on the south bank of the Perfume River has delighted locals and tourists alike.
The sculpture "The Bowing Man" by artist Yoo Young-ho, cast in aluminum and machan stone (sky blue), stands 6 meters tall with a base diameter of 4 meters. It conveys a message of respect and understanding, reflecting the humble and respectful greeting style of Koreans.
The statue was created in a nude style, leading to previous opinions that it was inappropriate for the space and culture of Hue. At a meeting organized by the Thua Thien Hue Provincial People's Committee on the afternoon of April 3rd, researchers and representatives of the Hue City People's Committee proposed three locations for the statue: Ly Tu Trong Park (in front of Hue Central Hospital), the park opposite Da Vien islet (on the south bank of Da Vien bridge), and in front of the Central Sports Center gymnasium (opposite the Hue City People's Committee headquarters).
Yoo Young Ho's sculpture, " The Bowing Man ," conveys a message of respect and understanding, reflecting the humble greeting style of the Korean people.
However, the Standing Committee of the Thua Thien Hue Provincial Party Committee unanimously agreed to choose Park 3.2 on the south bank of the Perfume River, in front of the Hue University of Education, because this area already has an art space with many sculptures created by international artists during previous Hue Festivals. The statue placed in this park will further enrich the existing sculpture garden.
The "Man Bowing" statue from South Korea is a gift symbolizing the friendly and solidarity relationship between the two cities of Vietnam and South Korea.
