Vietnam women's volleyball team attends world tournament

Without the best squad to attend the world tournament, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team carries many worries before the match with strong opponents.

One day before leaving for Thailand to participate for the first time in the 2025 World Cup, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team had their last friendly match with Kenya. This is also the opponent in the same group as the Vietnamese team at the tournament in Thailand in a few days. The African representative only fielded a reserve team for testing, so they easily lost 0-4 to the team of coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet.

The withdrawal of the main hitter Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen right before the departure time made the Vietnamese team really confused. Even head coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet had to admit that he "could not react in time" when the time was too tight, not to mention there were not many suitable personnel to supplement from the domestic clubs.

Although the team has confirmed that they have enough plans and replacement personnel, the reality is not easy. The main striker Vi Thi Nhu Quynh and the middle blocker Nguyen Thi Uyen were both tested in the opposite set position in the friendly match with Kenya, but both only did their jobs well. The only remaining opposite blocker, Hoang Thi Kieu Trinh, does not have the strength, jumping ability and effective attack like Bich Tuyen. A possible solution for the Vietnamese team is to use the middle blockers to score points. This has been done well by Tran Thi Bich Thuy, Nguyen Thi Trinh, Nguyen Thi Uyen, Pham Thi Hien, Nguyen Thi Phuong and Le Thanh Thuy in recent tournaments.

We also cannot fail to mention the courage and experience of captain Tran Thi Thanh Thuy, even though she has not yet regained her best form after her injury last year. With her height advantage, Thanh Thuy possesses the ability to serve consistently and hit high-altitude balls. Recently, she has also participated in supporting the defense quite well, from taking the first step to blocking. Other positions in the team such as libero Nguyen Khanh Dang and setter Lam Oanh are also the spiritual support for the whole team thanks to their ability to stick together and their fighting spirit.

The opponents at the 2025 World Championship are mostly very strong, so the Vietnamese women's volleyball team has set the goal of learning, accumulating experience and improving their level through each match. The goal of this tour is to help the team have the best preparation for the 33rd SEA Games campaign later this year.

Flying to Thailand on August 20, the Vietnamese team focused on practicing their tactical plans. The Vietnamese team has 3 days to prepare before the opening match against the world's 3rd ranked team Poland (August 23). The next scheduled matches in Group G are against Germany (ranked 11th, August 25) and Kenya (ranked 23rd, August 27). The match against the world's 11th ranked team Germany is not easy for Thanh Thuy and her teammates. Therefore, the Vietnamese team puts all their hopes on the match against the opponent who is one rank lower on the FIVB rankings, Kenya.
