According to Xinhua News Agency, Moscow experienced its heaviest snowfall in 56 years on January 9th.
"The snowstorm that hit central Russia on January 9th brought record snowfall, paralyzing road and air traffic across the region," said Evgeny Tishkovets, a leading expert at the Phobos Weather Center, a private weather forecasting service.

According to an APA correspondent, the "Frances" snowstorm caused snowfall in Moscow to exceed 65 cm. Moscow City Hall announced that it had mobilized 130,000 workers and 15,000 pieces of equipment to clear snow from the streets.
Moscow's Sheremetyevo International Airport reported that more than 1 million cubic meters of snow were cleared from the airport grounds in 24 hours.
As of 12 noon on January 10 (local time), 78 flights at Moscow's four main airports had been delayed for more than two hours, while 35 others were canceled, according to the Russian Ministry of Transport .
All four airports subsequently resumed normal operations.
Moscow Railway Company estimates that approximately 70,000 cubic meters of snow were cleared from the city's railway infrastructure in 24 hours.
