At the meeting, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Hoang Nam gave an overview of the typical values of the special national relic of Vinh Moc Tunnels and Vinh Linh tunnel village system (Vinh Linh district); National relic of the Gio An ancient water exploitation works system (Gio Linh district); the bases for nominating Vinh Moc Tunnels and Vinh Linh tunnel village system, Gio An ancient water exploitation works system to the list of world cultural heritages. On that basis, the Provincial People's Committee proposed the National Commission for UNESCO to consider and select 1 cultural heritage of Quang Tri province to include in the UNESCO nomination list. At the same time, it proposed to consult for Quang Tri to build the title of City for Peace to propose UNESCO for recognition. Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Hoang Nam also said that the 2nd Festival for Peace will be organized by Quang Tri province in 2026.
Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Hoang Nam sincerely thanked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for supporting Quang Tri province in developing the project as well as accompanying the organization of the Festival for Peace taking place in Quang Tri. Through the activities of the Festival, it has created a wide spread domestically and internationally, further highlighting the will and aspirations for peace of the Vietnamese people; at the same time contributing to spreading the message that the Vietnamese people love peace, wishing to join hands with the people of the world to build and protect sustainable peace, especially in the context of many conflicts in the world as today.
Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister Ha Kim Ngoc highly appreciated Quang Tri's successful organization of the Festival for Peace. The festival was organized on a large scale, grandly and touchingly, and needs to continue to be implemented to create a spread and attract domestic and international tourists to Quang Tri.
Deputy Minister Ha Kim Ngoc emphasized: During the resistance wars for national independence, Quang Tri was the place that suffered much pain, sacrifice and loss, and witnessed many cruel and destructive scenes of war. This is the place that carries the eternal desire for peace, which has deeply and strongly shaken the conscience of peace-loving humanity. Currently, Quang Tri still preserves many cultural heritages of unique value. However, Quang Tri does not have a UNESCO title for the locality.
Based on the opinions of the delegates, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ha Kim Ngoc said that Quang Tri province's desire to put the locality on the global UNESCO heritage map is completely justified. The province has potential but needs to have effective ways of doing things, and needs to set short-term and long-term goals for implementation.
According to Deputy Minister Ha Kim Ngoc, for the immediate goal, there are two options. The minimum and most feasible option is to build a Global Learning City, integrating the Festival for Peace into it. The high-level option is to build a City for Peace, to continue to honor and promote the value of the Festival, create a spread of the Festival to propose to include it in the UNESCO heritage map.
In the long term, the Deputy Minister said that priority should be given to building intangible heritage. In particular, according to the Deputy Minister, priority should be given to building the system of ancient Gio An water exploitation works.
The Deputy Minister asked experts to help Quang Tri province plan a long-term strategy, pay attention to communication and promotion for Quang Tri on social media platforms. At the same time, he emphasized that in the upcoming meeting with the World Heritage Committee, he will introduce the contents proposed by the province, and request the province to have a specific plan for coordination and implementation.
