Released into the forest a rare turtle voluntarily surrendered by people of Trieu Phong commune

QTO - On the morning of August 27, information from the Nam Quang Tri Special-Use Forest Management Board said that the rare turtle voluntarily handed over by people in Trieu Phong commune after a period of care was released back into the natural environment by relevant agencies.

Previously, during the heavy rains in June 2025, Mr. Le Van Chau, residing in Co Thanh village, Trieu Phong commune, discovered a turtle in his garden. After investigating and realizing that this was a rare animal, Mr. Chau proactively reported and voluntarily handed over the turtle to the People's Committee of Trieu Phong commune.

According to Trieu Phong Forest Protection Department and Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Station No. 8, this is a Nui Vien turtle, international name is Manouria impressa; weighing 3.1 kg, currently in stable health, belonging to Group IIB in the List of endangered, precious, rare species prioritized for protection. After completing the procedures, Trieu Phong Commune People's Committee coordinated with the Forest Protection Department and the Nam Quang Tri Special-Use Forest Management Board to release the turtle into the natural environment.
