Processing wooden furniture at Van Du carpentry village, Chi Dam commune to meet market demand.
Established on the basis of merging the old Chi Dam commune and Hung Xuyen, this place not only inherits the agricultural tradition but also promotes economic restructuring, bringing stable income to the people. One of the biggest advantages of Chi Dam commune is its fertile land resources and temperate climate, suitable for agricultural production in the direction of goods. With a specialty grapefruit area of up to 489 hectares (an increase of 123 hectares compared to 2020), Chi Dam has affirmed its position through grapefruit products certified to meet 4-star OCOP standards in 2022. The whole commune has 5 grapefruit cooperatives. The cooperatives all focus on guiding members to apply science and technology to care for grapefruit trees, organize product introductions and consume output for local grapefruit output. The work of protecting, promoting and developing the brand of specialty grapefruit is regularly paid attention to, effectively maintaining the application of traceability stamps, actively participating in fairs and exhibitions to introduce products.
In order to increase the economic value of grapefruit trees, after many years of research and study of agricultural processing technology, some cooperatives in the commune have produced many by-products from grapefruit such as: grapefruit pulp, grapefruit peel jam, grapefruit peel essential oil, grapefruit flower distilled water... From there, opening up opportunities for local agricultural products, contributing to supporting people in consuming unqualified grapefruits that have to be pruned and discarded. Hung Xuyen Agricultural Cooperative is one of the leading units in the commune to implement a model of processing by-products from grapefruit and grapefruit flowers. Mr. Nguyen Tuan Oanh, Director of Hung Xuyen Agricultural Cooperative, said: “In order for local grapefruit to become a year-round commodity, processing by-products plays an important role. How to fully utilize the value of grapefruit trees to improve economic efficiency so that grapefruit trees can develop stably and sustainably is a question that always makes me struggle to find a solution. Turning grapefruit trees, which used to only produce fragrant flowers and sweet fruits, into raw materials for deep processing, brings sustainable development to the specialty grapefruit region, increases income for local people, and creates regular jobs for cooperative members.”
Hung Xuyen Agricultural Cooperative invests in machinery and equipment for processing grapefruit jam, grapefruit essential oil, grapefruit pulp... to meet market demand, contributing to increasing product value.
