Application of artificial intelligence in vocational education

On November 6th, the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations, in collaboration with the Institute for Vocational Education Research, organized a workshop titled "Application of AI Tools in the Development of Vocational Education," with the participation of experts, scientists, and managers.

Associate Professor Pham Quang Thao, Vice President of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations, stated that the application of new technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), has become a core innovation tool for the vocational education system, aiming towards a "smart vocational education system - Smart TVET".

Resolution 57 has oriented the development of science and technology, including making AI a core technology to promote innovation in production, business, and social governance. Vietnam is accelerating digital transformation, developing the digital economy , and building a high-quality workforce, with vocational education and training (VET) playing a central role in training a skilled workforce with digital skills to meet new development requirements.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hung, former Deputy Director of the International Relations Department - Government Office, affirmed that the application of technology has become an inevitable trend, including the application of AI in automation, personalized learning, and vocational skill simulation, while also pointing out challenges regarding infrastructure and human resources. However, AI applications have two sides, especially the use of ChatGPT which produces many inaccurate data. Therefore, users must exercise control and verification. The use of AI should only be considered a tool.

Coming from the Hanoi College of Electronics and Refrigeration, Mr. Le Viet Cuong shared practical experiences in implementing AI in vocational training, including models using ChatGPT API to support automatic grading, AI+VR to simulate vocational tasks, and the "AI for Vocational Skills" cooperation program between the former General Department of Vocational Education and Training and Microsoft Vietnam. Mr. Le Viet Cuong proposed strengthening digital skills training for lecturers, developing open learning materials on AI, and promoting tripartite cooperation between the State, Schools, and Businesses.

At the workshop, experts and educators agreed that AI is not just a supporting tool, but a strategic platform that will help Vietnamese vocational education transform strongly – from a traditional training model to a smart, digitized, and internationally integrated training model.
