The US dollar edged higher against the euro in the last trading session, heading for its first weekly gain this month, as investors took profits from the euro's recent appreciation.

Today's USD exchange rate on the world market (March 23, 2025)

The Dollar Index (DXY), which measures the USD against six major currencies (EUR, JPY, GBP, CAD, SEK, CHF), closed at 104.09 - up 0.16 from March 22, 2025.

The US dollar has risen for the third consecutive session against a basket of six major international currencies. Experts believe the dollar's strength stems from market expectations that the US economy may remain robust, despite the retaliatory tariffs imposed by the US and several other countries in recent times.

Despite concerns about rising inflation, Trump's tax policies are attracting investors to pour capital into the US, hoping to benefit from the tariff policies.

Forecasts suggest the US dollar may remain under pressure as inflation rises due to trade tensions, as well as the Federal Reserve's (Fed) potential interest rate cuts later this year. In particular, upcoming economic and employment data releases in late March and early April will significantly impact the dollar's direction.

Fed policymakers have signaled two 25-basis-point interest rate cuts by the end of this year, the same level as the average forecast three months ago.

"While it's still too early to determine the next moves, the most optimistic scenario we can think of is that tariffs are likely to boost the dollar's recovery," said Jonas Goltermann, Deputy Director of Market Economics at Capital Economics.

Conversely, the EUR fell 0.3% to $1.08223, heading for a 0.6% weekly decline, its first weekly drop since February 28.

The US dollar rose 0.3%, reaching 149.21 yen.

The British pound fell 0.3% to $1.293, a day after the Bank of England warned investors against assuming further rate cuts, given the uncertainty plaguing the global and UK economies.
